Take your fun fold cards to a new level with this simple 4-panel Z fold design. The step panel design is such a fun way to add depth and dimension to this fun fold card. And I have two different ways you can use this design in your card making.
Portrait Style 4-Panel Z Fold
First let’s talk about how to create this 4-Panel Z Fold card in portrait style. Start with a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2″ piece of cardstock. Score the 8-1/2″ side at 2-1/8″ and 4-1/4″ to create Z Fold card base (A 2 size). Now you are ready to create the 4 different panels for the front of the Z Fold card.

Each of the four panels on the card front are 1-1/4″ wide. The length of the panels vary in size. This variation create a fun little step pattern on the front of the card. The length of each panel, from top to bottom, is as follows: 2-1/2, 3, 3-1/2 and 4.” The panels are decorated with patterned paper pieces which are cut an 1/8″ smaller. You can find all the measurements by downloading the free tutorial below.
Once you create the panels, simple adhere the left side of each panel to the front flap of the Z Fold card. The cards feature the Sunrise Sailing Bundle alongside the new 2025 In Colors from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind you can use any supplies you have on hand.
Landscape Style
Now let’s talk about how to create the 4-Panel Z Fold card in landscape style. This card features a similar design but the measurements for the base and panels of the card are very different. To create the landscape style card base, start with a 4-1/4 x 11″ piece of cardstock. Score the 11″ side at 2-3/4 and 5-1/2″ inches to create the Z Fold card base.

Each panel on the card front is 1″ wide but, again, they vary in length. The length of the panels, from top to bottom, are as follows: 3-3/4, 4-1/4, 4-3/4, and 5-1/4.” The patterned paper pieces are 1/8″ smaller than the panels. Be sure to download the free tutorial for the all the measurements.

Once you have decorated the panels, simply add them to the front flap of the Z Fold card and decorate as desired.
