Mosaic Card Design

Looking for a unique way to use up your scrap papers?  This mosaic card design is a fun and easy way to put those scrap papers to good use! 

The cards feature the Nature’s Sweetness Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind you can use any scrap pieces of patterned paper you have on hand.

Creating the Mosaic Design

First let’s talk about how to create the mosaic design. Start by gathering a variety of different scrap pieces of paper. Cut the scraps down to 1-inch wide, the length doesn’t matter. Using a scissors, snip the 1-inch strips to create different shapes. I recommend watching the video for some tips on this.

Grab a piece of white cardstock. You can cut this cardstock to any size. However, for the purpose of this demonstration, I chose a 3 x 4 inch size. Cut a piece of an adhesive sheet down to 3 x 4 inches. Peel off the backing to add the adhesive sheet to the white cardstock. Smooth down the adhesive sheet with your hand or a bone folder to ensure a good seal. Then, peel off the backing from the top of the adhesive sheet to expose the adhesive.

Now you are ready to add the different scrap pieces! Cover the entire piece of white cardstock with scrap pieces of paper leaving a little white space in between. Trim off any excess paper which is overhanging the cardstock. Sprinkle gold embossing powder across the entire piece of paper. The gold embossing powder will stick to the adhesive in the white spaces of the design. Tap off any excess powder and heat to set it.

Alternate Card Idea

Now that you know how to create the mosaic design, you are ready to make some cards! The first card idea features the 3 x 4 inch mosaic design as the center focal point for the card. Adhere it a 3-1/8 x 4-1/8 inch piece of Pebbled Path cardstock before adding it to the card front. Add a little greeting and embellish as desired.

The second card idea features the mosaic design created on a 3 x 3-3/4 inch piece of white cardstock. Once the mosaic design is complete, simply cut the paper in half. You will end up with two mosaic pieces measuring 1-1/2 x 3-3/4 inches. Add a 1-3/4 x 3-3/4 inch piece of embossed white cardstock in the center and embellish as desired.
