Learn how to create an easy quilters star with ANY patterned paper you have on hand. It’s a fun paper piecing technique and a great way to use up scraps!
Quilters Star Design
First let’s talk about how to create the quilters star design. Start with a 3 x 3 inch piece of white cardstock. Draw a pencil line across the white cardstock, diagonally, from corner to corner to make an “X” on the white cardstock.
Cut 4 pieces of patterned paper at 1/2 x 6 inches. Lay two pieces across the white cardstock on each side of one of the pencil lines. Lay the other two pieces across the white cardstock on the other pencil line to create an “X” as shown.
Complete a bit of “over and under” weaving with the paper pieces and then adhere them down to the 3 x 3 inch white cardstock square. I recommend watching the video to see this process in action.
Use a scissors to trim off the excess patterned paper which is overhanging the square. Next, cut 4 squares measuring 3/4 x 3/4 inches from a piece of white cardstock. Adhere the squares over the patterned paper in each of the four corners to create the star design! For the finishing touch, emboss the entire piece with your favorite embossing folder.
