Fractured Card Technique

Learn how to use this fractured card technique to create some simple and unique layouts! And I have three different ways you can use this design technique in your card making. The cards feature the Hello Irresistible Collection from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind that you can use any supplies you have on hand to create these cards.

Fractured Card Technique

First let’s talk about the fractured card technique. You can use any supplies you have on hand with this technique. Start by choosing a piece of patterned paper and cut it to 4 x 5-1/4 inches. Next, choose your color scheme based on the patterned paper. For example, I chose Pretty Peacock and white as my color scheme for the first card. I created the card base and the 1/4 inch strips in the Pretty Peacock color. Cut 4 pieces of Pretty Peacock cardstock measuring 1/4 x 5-1/2 inches. You will also need a square shape measuring 2-3/8 x 2-3/8 inches or less. The smaller the square shape, the more defined the fractured look of the card will be.

Start by adhering the square shape to the center of the patterned paper. Adhere the square so it creates a diamond. Next, adhere the 1/4 inch strips around the square shape to create the fractured design. I recommend watching the video below to see this technique in action! The first two cards feature the exact same colors, the only difference is I changed out the colors of the card base, the square and the 1/4 inch strips to give the cards a different look.

The last card idea features the use of a 4 x 5-1/4 inch piece of embossed cardstock instead of using patterned paper. The square shape in the middle of the card was created with a piece of patterned paper. It makes a great focal point!

You can simply change the color scheme and use this fractured card technique over and over again. Of course, you can also use different stamp sets and patterned papers to create cards for any occasion. Just get creative with it!
