This weekend I put together a few Valentine’s Day treat boxes for the grandkids. They are super simple to create and were inspired by a few little project ideas I found on Pinterest by Karen Robinson. The best part about these treat boxes is that you can really use them for any occasion.

I put together a variety of treat box ideas just to give you an idea of the versatility of this design. One for Valentine’s Day, one for St. Patrick’s Day and one featuring the Sunshine and Rainbows DSP. Of course, you can’t have a treat box without a card, right? That means each one has a coordinating card.
Window Treat Box Templates
Let’s talk about the template for creating the treat boxes. You can use designer series paper or cardstock. Start by cutting a 6 x 9 inch piece of paper. Score the 9 inch side at 1-1/2, 4-1/4, 5-3/4 and 8-1/2 inches. Turn the paper 180 degrees. Score the 6 inch side at 1-1/2 and 5 inches.

Once you have the paper scored, you are ready to cut the little box flaps. The picture below will help guide you with the cutting process. Basically you will cut on each of the score lines, as shown, to create the flaps. The small 1/2 inch sections of the box will be cut and completely removed.

If your paper looks like the picture, then you are ready to add the window section and assemble the box! You can use any punch or die set to create the window. The completed treat box is 2-3/4 wide x 3-1/2 inches tall x 1-1/2 inches deep. I recommend watching the replay of my live video to see the creation of the window and assembly of this treat box in action!
Treat Box and Card Ideas
Now we are ready to create the coordinating cards. The Valentine’s Day projects feature the Sweet Conversations Designer Series Paper and the stamp set. The heart shape is the leftover piece from creating the window on the treat box. You can find a complete list of supplies for the Valentine’s Day projects HERE.

To create the card, start with a piece of Real Red cardstock for the base of the card. Cut a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of white cardstock. Emboss the right side of the cardstock with the Dotty Hearts Embossing Folder. Tear the left side of the white cardstock. Cut a 1 x 4 inch piece of DSP and adhere to the card front. Add a 1-1/2 x 4 inch piece of DSP and a bit of ribbon to the white cardstock before adhering the piece to the card front. For the finishing touch, use the heart punch pack to create the focal point. Embellish as desired.
Sunshine and Rainbows Ideas
The next set of projects features the Sunshine and Rainbows Designer Series Paper and the Rainbow of Happiness Bundle. The Designer Paper is one of the many items you can choose for FREE with a qualifying purchase during Saleabration. The window on the treat box was created with the Cloud Punch. You can find a complete list of supplies for these projects HERE.

To create the card, start with a piece of So Saffron cardstock for the base of the card. Cut a 1-1/2 x 4-1/4 inch piece of patterned paper and adhere it to the left side of the card front. Next, cut a 1/2 x 4-1/4 inch piece of another patterned paper and adhere to the left side of the card front as shown. Cut out one of the rainbows from a piece of the Sunshine and Rainbows DSP and adhere it to the card front with a few dimensionals. Punch out a few cloud shapes from white cardstock and adhere to the bottom of the rainbow. Embellish the card with some smaller clouds and rhinestones.
St. Patrick’s Day Ideas
The last set of projects features the Artistically Composed Designer Series Paper, the hearts from the Bouquet of Love Hybrid embossing folder/die set and the greeting from the Crane of Fortune stamp set. Take a look at some of the supplies you have on hand and get creative with them. The window on the treat box was created with the with the small, stitched heart from the Bouquet of Love Hybrid embossing folder/die set. You can find a complete list of supplies for these projects HERE.

To create the treat box, lay the stitched heart die on one of the large panels of the box and run it through your embossing machine. You must position the heart die 3 separate times to create the clover. Save those 3 heart shapes to create the card.

You are so talented, Lynn. What a great gift idea and card. I like to put things like this in our church mail boxes; especially for the elderly or shut-ins. They love it so.
