3 Easy Pocket Card Ideas – Stampin’ Up! Hand Penned Suite

Wanna learn how to make a super simple and unique card? Well you are in the right place. Today I have 3 easy pocket card ideas to share. You are going to be surprised at how easy they are to create! And I have 3 different ways you can use the pocket card idea in your card making.

Portrait Style Pocket Card

The first pocket card idea features a unique portrait style design. This style of card consists of two parts: (1) Creating the Pocket Card Base and (2) Creating the “Insert” for the Pocket. Let’s start by discussing the creation of the base of the card. Cut a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 inch piece of white cardstock. Next, Cut a 4 x 5-1/4 inch piece of any patterned paper and adhere it to the white cardstock.

Now, let’s create the pocket section. Start with a 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 inch piece of white cardstock. Cut this cardstock piece in half, diagonally, from corner to corner to create two triangular pieces. Use one piece to create this card and save the other piece to create another card. Decorate the triangular piece by cutting a 3-1/4 x 3-1/4 inch piece of patterned paper. Cut this square piece in half, diagonally, and adhere one of the patterned paper triangles to the white triangular shape. Add a bit of glue to the two outer edges of the white triangle and adhere to the lower left corner of the card front as shown.

You have just created a triangular pocket on the card base. Great work! Now you can go ahead and create a little card to insert into the pocket. I simply cut a 3-1/4 x 4-1/4 inch piece of white cardstock and decorated it. It’s a postcard style which means the cardstock is decorated on the front and blank on the back. That way I can write a little message on the back and tuck it into the pocket.

Card Insert

The second way to use this pocket card design is to create a little card within a card. It’s basically the same concept as the first card except this time we will create a little folded card (instead of a postcard style) to insert into the pocket. The base and pocket sections of the card are created exactly as above. Same measurements and style.

Now, let’s create the card which will we will tuck into the pocket. Start with a 3 x 8 inch piece of white cardstock. Score the 8 inch side at 4 inches to create the base of the card. The card front measures 3 x 4 inches when the card is closed. Cut a 3 x 4 inch piece of any patterned paper and adhere it to the card front. Decorate the card front with a bit of twine, some trim and a little greeting. Then tuck the little card into the pocket! The trim showcased on these cards was created with one of the dies from the Penned Flowers Die set.

Landscape Style Pocket Card

The card idea features the pocket style card in landscape style. Of course you know I love to play around with portrait and landscape style designs! It’s such a great way to change the look of the card without changing all of the measurements. So that means you can create the base and pocket of the card using the exact same measurements as noted above. Plus, you have the option of creating a little postcard or a little folding card to insert into the pocket. Super fun!

All the cards feature a variety of products from the Stampin’ Up! Hand Penned suite. However keep in mind you can use these card designs with ANY patterned papers or products you have on hand. For more fun and unique cards ideas, check out my latest post featuring a Tailored Tag design.
