Let’s switch gears this week and make some Halloween cards! There are so many fun stamp sets in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday catalog for Halloween. However today we will focus on the Have A Hoot Bundle. This bundle has some adorable little owl images that are perfect for Halloween. There are also several images in the set with a Christmas theme. Yes, the set is very versatile! However, today we will focus on 6 easy cards you can create for Halloween.
Scraps for Layering
One of my favorite things about card making is playing around with a variety of different designs and layouts. Many of my card designs arise out of the need to use up scrap pieces of paper. Scrap pieces of paper are perfect for creating layers. So as we move through the different card ideas today you will see how easy it is to add layers and use up scraps.
Both of these card designs feature the layering of two pieces of patterned paper on Blackberry Bliss cardstock. The first card features a 5 x 3-3/4 inch piece of black patterned paper in the background. The 1-3/4 x 4 inch piece of paper accents the card with a bit of purple color and makes a nice layer. The second card features a 2-1/2 x 5-1/4 inch piece of black paper banner in the background. A small 1 x 3-1/2 inch piece of paper adds a bit of purple color to the card and frames out the right side of the white cardstock piece. You can use 2 x 3 or 2 x 2-3/4 inch pieces of white cardstock as your focal point. I used the slightly smaller white cardstock piece on the first card to create the focal point.
Have A Hoot Bundle
All of the cards showcase the new Magic In This Night Designer Series Paper pack. Although there are a variety of different Halloween colors in this paper pack, I focused on the use of Blackberry Bliss, Whisper White and Basic Black to make these cards.
The Have A Hoot stamp set and the Peek-A-Hoot dies are available individually or in a bundle. I highly recommend the bundle as everything coordinates so well together. Plus you get a 10% discount when ordering in a bundle! The die set cuts out all of the owl images in the set. It also contains a spiderweb die cut image as well as 3 different size tags shapes!
The first card showcases a 5 x 3-3/4 and 1-1/2 x 4 inch pieces of patterned paper. It’s the same layout I shared previously, I just changed out the patterned papers and the focal point on the card. The second card features a 2 x 4-1/4 inch piece of black paper in the background. The larger piece of patterned paper, 3 x 4 inch piece, overlaps the black piece and becomes the focal point of the card. The rest of the layering is achieved with the some of the fun Peek-A-Hoot die cut shapes and Have A Hoot stamped images.
Unique Card Layouts
The last two card ideas I have to share feature some simple yet unique layouts. The first card showcases a fun way to use the new Cobwebs 3D embossing folder. Simply emboss a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of black cardstock. Then I took a Wink of Stella glitter pen and lightly ran it over the entire embossed cobweb. It’s simple to do and gives the cobwebs a fun shimmer. The layers feature a 2 x 4 inch banner and a 3/4 x 4 inch scrap piece of paper.
The second card features a fun frame idea! The idea for this card was inspired by one of the cards in the holiday catalog. One of the cool things about the tag dies in this set is that you can cut 3 of them out at one time! Start with a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of white cardstock, use the label die to cut out the frames and then decorate!
