Did you know you can stamp images directly on your patterned paper? You can! And the results are absolutely amazing! So today I have two fun card making ideas to share that involve stamping on patterned paper.
In this week’s video, you will learn how to stamp on paper patterns and then use the patterns as a way to color (or fill) in your large stamped images. I will share 2 different ways you can use patterned paper to dress up your stamped images.
Stamping on Patterned Paper
This first card involves stamping directly on your patterned paper to fill in the image. You are basically coloring in the stamped image with the pretty pattern on your paper.
So start by prepping your supplies. For this project I am using a piece of the new All My Love Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up! I say NEW because it is one of the fun products coming out in the 2019 Occasions catalog. Don’t have a new catalog yet? You can request one here
I recommend choosing a paper with small patterns as it will fill in the stamped image nicely. Once you have selected your paper, choose cardstock colors that coordinate with your patterned paper. So for this project I choose to use Lovely Lipstick for the base of my card and black cardstock as an accent. Simply stamp the image on your patterned paper using black ink and cut it out by hand. Since I am using a large image with thick black lines it’s pretty easy to cut it out by hand.
Accent a Stamped Image with Patterned Paper
Now, this next card also involves stamping on patterned paper to fill in the large image. However, in this case we will be cutting out just a few different pieces of the patterned paper to accent or color in the different parts of the butterfly. It’s almost like a stained glass effect except instead of using stain and glass, we will use patterned paper and cardstock.
Start by stamping the large butterfly image on a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of white cardstock and on a 4 x 4 inch piece of your favorite patterned paper. For this particular card, I am using a piece of patterned paper from the Tea Room Specialty Designer Series Paper pack from Stampin’ Up! Although we are only using a few pieces of the patterned paper to accent the butterfly, you will stamp the entire butterfly image on the patterned paper. The stamped image, on your patterned paper, will serve as a guide so that you can cut out a few different pieces to adhere to the butterfly image on your card.
Cut the pieces directly on the black lines. You do not have to be perfect with your cutting because the black outline of the butterfly on your patterned paper will blend with the black outline on your cardstock. Adhere the patterned paper pieces to the butterfly on your card using SNAIL or other adhesive. For the finishing touch, color in the image with regular markers or Stampin’ Blends.
