Let’s continue to look at some fun and unique ways to make a gatefold card. So today, we will make a panel style gatefold card — a creative twist on the traditional gatefold design. This card design adds an extra layer to the gatefold section of the card, creating a beautiful focal point and a hidden surprise inside.
Panel Style Design
A standard gatefold card opens from the center, with two panels that fold inward to meet in the middle. Last week I shared a Double Z Gatefold card, so we are going to use a similar concept to create this panel style gatefold.
The design of this fun fold card consists of 3 parts:
- Card Base: 4-1/4 x 5-1/2″ piece of cardstock
- Gatefold Section: 5-1/2 x 8″ piece of cardstock. Score at 1-1/2, 2-3/4, 5-1/4, and 6-1/2″
- Front Panel: 3-1/2 x 5-1/2″

Once you cut the three main components of the card, you are ready to begin assembling and decorating. Add two strips of 1 x 5-1/4″ patterned paper to the left and right side of the card base. Adhere the gatefold section to the center of the card base.
Now you are ready to adhere the front panel of the card to one side of the gatefold. The front panel overlaps the opening of the gatefold, partially concealing what’s inside. It’s almost like a secret door waiting to reveal the inside!

It’s such a fun and interactive design. It stands up beautifully for display and folds flat for mailing too! Be sure to watch the video to see the creation of this fold in action!
Autumn Theme
For the cards I am sharing today, I decided to stick with an autumn theme — rich colors, textured layers, and cozy patterns that capture the beauty of the season. The first card idea features a variety of products from the Autumn Toile suite from Stampin’ Up!

This second card idea features a variety of products from the Gathering Together suite. You can create this panel style gatefold card using the same measurements as the first one. Simply change out the patterned papers and focal point to create a whole new look! It’s just an illustration on how incredibly versatile this design is! You can use it to create cards for any occasion. Simply change out your papers, colors, and embellishments to fit the theme.
