If you love fun fold cards, then you are going to love today’s projects! The Faux Step Card is one of those designs that looks complicated, but it’s actually super easy to create. Once you learn how to make it, you’ll want to use it to create cards for all sorts of occasions.
The cards feature a variety of products from the Autumn Toile Suite by Stampin’ Up!®. The beautiful fall-inspired designs in this suite work perfectly with the step-style layout of this card. However, the best part about this fun fold is that you can use any supplies you already have on hand.
Faux Step Design
First let’s talk about the basic design for this Faux Step card. Start with a piece of cardstock measuring 4-1/4 x 9 inches. Score the 9-inch side at 1-1/4, 2-1/2, and 5-3/4 inches. Accordion fold on all the score lines to create the step style card base.
Cut a 4-1/8 x 3-1/8 inch piece of patterned paper and adhere it to section in between the 2-1/2 and 5-3/4 inch score line. I recommend completing this step before adding the second part (the pop up section) of this fun fold card.

Now you are ready to create the center “pop” up section of this card. Cut a 2-1/2 x 9 inch piece of cardstock. Score the 9-inch side at 4-1/2 inches and fold it in half. Adhere half of this piece to the front 1-1/4 inch flap of the step card base. The other half is adhered to the back of the step card base. This creates a “tent” like fold over the top of the step card base which helps to stabilize the card. Decorate as desired.
Autum Toile Suite
Now that you know how to create the card base for this Faux Step card, you can decorate it with any supplies you have on hand. Of course, this means you can use this design to create cards for any occasion. For the cards I am sharing today, I decided to focus on an autumn theme. I love the colors of autumn and the products from the Autumn Toile suite from Stampin’ Up!

This suite of products includes a few stamp sets, dies, coordinating designer series paper, embellishments, ribbon. Learn more about this suite of products HERE. Thank you so much for such an easy and delightful card! I haven’t had time for fun stuff lately, but I think I can make time for this. I have some thank you cards to make and I think these will make it look like I took time to do something really nice for the recipients.
Fabulous card. Looked so difficult until I watched the video! Thanks for sharing!
Yes, these cards look more difficult than they are. Have fun creating!
This is top of the line, looks unique, and doesn’t need to be colored in the stamped part; I love it!!
Thanks so much!
I love your style! Thanks for sharing with others!
Thanks so much!
What size envelope is used to mail this type of card?
This card will fit in an A2 size envelope. It measures 4-1/2 x 4-1/4″ when closed.
I love fun fold cards! Maybe because they’re different from the store bought ones (usually). I like that this one is easier to make than it looks! Thank you for sharing. Good masculine ideas with the Autumn theme!

Thanks so much Fran!
This is a really cute card idea, and will be working this into my next card making session! However, I do feel the weight of this card for mailing with the multiple layers would be a TON!!!
Thanks so much! The weight of the card is under an ounce unless you add lots of layers.
Thanks Lynn, always like your cards. I’ll
be making a card like this one.❤️
Thanks so much Gail. Have fun with this design!
