Unique Valentine Cards to Make with Partial Die Cutting

Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to get creative with your card-making! Today, I’m excited to share two simple yet unique Valentine card designs using the partial die-cutting technique. The cards feature the Everyday Arches Dies and the Pick A Season stamp set from Stampin’ Up!—a set you can earn FREE during Sale-A-Bration with a qualifying $60 purchase. However, feel free to give this technique a try with dies you may already have on hand. Let’s dive into the fun!

Side-Folding Valentine Card

First let’s talk about the partial die cutting technique. It’s a versatile technique that allows you to cut only a portion of your die shape into a piece of cardstock, or in this case, the card base. This adds dimension, creates unique card designs, and offers endless creative possibilities.

This first card showcases a side folding design. Start by preparing the card base. Cut a piece of cardstock to 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ and score it at 4-1/4″ to create a side-folding card base. Now you are ready to position the die. Place the Everyday Arches Die on the left edge of the folded card front. Ensure part of the die hangs off the folded edge. Run the die and cardstock through your die-cutting machine. Remove the die, and you’ll see that part of the arch has been cut into the card front. The folded edge of the card front remains intact leaving a fun and unique card base design! Now you are ready to stamp and decorate your card!

Top-Folding Valentine Card

Now that you know how to use the partial die cutting technique, let’s create another card base. This time we want to create a top folding card instead of a side folding card. In order to do that, we need to cut the cardstock differently.

To prepare the card base, cut a piece of cardstock to 11″ x 4-1/4″ and score it at 5-1/2″ to create a top-folding card base. Position the Everyday Arches die near the top of the folded edge, ensuring part of the die is above the fold. Run the die and cardstock through your die-cutting machine. Remove the die to reveal your unique card base design! Decorate with the Pick A Season stamp set or any supplies you have on hand.
