Today I will show you how to take a simple card designed with the Perennial Essence DSP and, with a few modifications, “step it up” to create even more fun designs! Stepping up your cards is a great way to use your designs over and over again without having to come up with new ideas!

And this particular design will allow you to show off your pretty patterned papers too.

Stepping Up Your Cards
The key to stepping up your cards is to start with a basic design. I recommend a quick and simple card idea that will enable you to step it up by adding more layers and embellishments. So you can see that these three cards all have the same basic design yet each one is just a little bit different. You can change the whole look of the card simply by adding a few different layers and/or embellishments.
So the first card features a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of one of the patterned papers from the Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper pack adhered to a standard card base. Next, cut a 3/4 x 4 inch piece of cardstock and stamp a greeting on it. Adhere this piece across the patterned paper. Then simply embellish with a few pearls. The second card features the exact same design with a bit of vanilla trim added just under the greeting.
To create the last card design, simply start by using the same design featured on the second card. This time we will be stepping up the card with a fun little frame and embellishments. To create the frame, use some die cuts that you are able to layer together. I used the stitched rectangles but any die cuts that have varying sizes will work. Adhere the frame across the patterned paper, on a slight angle, so that the greeting shows through the frame. Then embellish the card with some hand cut flowers, trim and pearls.
One Sheet Wonder Template

One of the fun things about this particular design is that you can create 6 cards from a piece of 12 x 12 inch patterned paper. It’s one of the easiest One Sheet Wonder Templates to use for some quick and simple card making.

Now you could actually make 9 cards with this One Sheet Wonder template but I decided to use the little 1-1/2 x 4 inch pieces to decorate the inside of each of the 6 cards. I simply cut the 3 pieces in half so that I had a 3/4 x 4 inch piece of patterned paper to decorate the inside of each of the 6 cards.
