Looking for a fun twist on a classic fun fold card? Today we are going to play around with one of my favorite fun fold cards ~ a Z Fold. However, this is no ordinary Z Fold card, it has a little surprise inside! And I have two different ways you can use this design in your card making. The cards feature a variety of products from the Florals in Bloom suite from Stampin’ Up! However, you can use any supplies you have on hand to create these cards.
Portrait Style Z Fold
First let’s talk about how to make a Z Fold card in portrait style. Start with a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2″ piece of cardstock. Score the 8-1/2″ side at 2-1/8″ and 4-1/4.” Fold the card in half on 4-1/4″ score line. Fold the section with the 2-1/8″ score line back onto itself to create the Z Fold card.
Once you create the card base, add some patterned paper to all the different sections of the Z Fold card. Create the focal point and inside message. This is what a typical Z Fold style card looks like when decorated.

However, this Z Fold has a fun little surprise on the inside! Instead of just adding a piece of patterned paper on the inside of the card, I created another fun fold section with patterned paper. It’s a double fun fold style card! The base of the card is a Z Fold. The inside fun fold section is created with patterned paper.

Start by cutting a 4 x 10-1/2″ piece of patterned paper. Score the paper at 5-1/4″ and fold on the score line. Adhere the folded paper to the inside of the Z Fold card to create the inside fun fold surprise!
Landscape Style
Now that you know how to create the Z Fold card in portrait style, let’s change the orientation and create it landscape style. Changing the orientation of the card is a great way to change the look of the card. The measurements for creating a landscape style card are different, so let’s take a closer at how to create it.
Start with a 4-1/4 x 11″ piece of cardstock. Score the 11″ side at 2-3/4″ and 5-1/2″ to create the base of the Z Fold card. Fold the card in half on 5-1/2″ score line. Fold the section with the 2-3/4″ score line back onto itself to create the Z Fold card.

Now you are ready to decorate the card. Add some patterned paper and embossed cardstock to the front panels of the Z Fold card. To create the inside surprise, cut a 5-1/4 x 8″ piece of patterned paper. Score the 8″ side at 4″ and adhere the folded patterned paper to the inside of the card.
