Pop Up Shadow Box Card Ideas

If you love interactive cards that wow the recipient, you’re going to love this Pop-Up Shadow Box Card! It stands up beautifully for display and folds flat for ease in mailing. Plus, it’s super simple to make with just a few supplies.

Card Base Template

First let’s talk about how to create the base of this Pop Up Shadow Box card. Start with a 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece of cardstock. Score the 11-inch side at 1/2, 1, 4-1/2, 5, 5-1/2, 6, 6-1/2, 10 and 10-1/2 inches. Accordion fold on all the score lines (use the picture to help guide you on the folds).

Lay a 3-1/4 x 4-1/4 inch piece of patterned paper on the front section of the card. Place a 3″ circle die on the patterned paper and run it through your embossing machine. The die will cut out the 3″ circle shape from the patterned paper and cardstock at the same time.

Open up the card to add a 3-1/4 x 4-1/4 inch piece of white cardstock on the inside of the card. Fold on the 5-1/2 inch score line to close the card. Stamp the heart image directly in the circle shape onto the white cardstock on the inside of the card.

Add glue to the two 1/2-inch sections in the center of the card base and adhere them together. Glue together the two 1/2-inch sections on the end of the card. I recommend watching the video to see this process in action!

Pop Up Shadow Box

This pop-up shadow box card is a three-dimensional card which features a circle-shaped window opening in the front. When popped up, the shadow box card gives the illusion of a layered scene or design inside. I just love how the heart shaped image looks on the inside.

The card doesn’t actually open. It pops up and stands on its own to display the message without the shadow box. However, you can add a piece of cardstock to the back of this shadow box so you can hand write a more personal message to the recipient.
