Looking to add a little interactive flair to your handmade cards? Pull-out cards are the perfect solution! They’re unique, fun to open, and can be customized for any occasion. In this post, I’m showcasing two fabulous pull-out card designs — one in landscape style and the other in portrait style. These designs feature the stunning Marbled Elegance Designer Series Paper and the elegant Hearts of Elegance Bundle, but the best part? You can use any supplies you have on hand to make these interactive cards.
Pull Out Card Design
First let’s talk about the basic design for creating a pull out card. There are two parts to this card: (1) The Pocket and (2) The Pull Out Card. To create the pocket, cut a 6 x 12 inch piece of patterned paper. Score the paper at 4 and 8 inches. Add a 1/2-inch score line along the bottom of the patterned paper. Make two diagonal cuts on each side of the patterned paper. Th e first cut will run diagonally from the 4-inch score line down to the 1/2-inch score line. The second cut will run diagonally from the 8-inch score line down to the 1/2-inch score line. Be sure to watch the video to see this cutting process and assembly of the pocket in action.

Now let’s talk about creating the pull out section. It’s basically two pieces of cardstock adhered together with a little set of hearts adhered to the right side. The hearts become the pull tab for the card, enabling the recipient to pull out the card from the pocket with ease.
Portrait Style
Pull-out cards bring a sense of surprise and delight to your recipient. Unlike a traditional card, these interactive designs allow you to add hidden messages or unexpected layers of beauty. Perfect for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, birthdays, or “just because” moments, they’re a thoughtful and memorable way to show you care.

And, of course, you can create this card in either portrait or landscape style. The measurments are exactly the same. The landscape style card features the pull out section on the right side. The portrait style card features the pull out section on the top of the card.
