Let’s play around with some alternate card ideas featuring the January 2025 Paper Pumpkin kit called Hearts for You. The kit includes all the supplies you need to make 9 cards. However, you can easily cut apart the supplies in the kit to create a total of 20-25 cards! Creating alternative designs is such a great way to get the most out of your Paper Pumpkin kit.
Paper Pumpkin Kit
First let’s talk about the card designs as featured in the January 2025 Paper Pumpkin kit. The kit includes all the supplies you need to make 9 cards; 3 of each of the 3 different designs. I created all three designs from the kit before I started creating alternative designs.

Typically, I like to cut apart the card bases and envelopes in the Paper Pumpkin kits to create some fun alternative designs. Two of the card bases had some pretty patterns on it; some in pink and some in red. I simply cut apart the remaining card bases to use as patterned paper.
Alternate Designs
The January 2025 Paper Pumpkin kit has so many fun little elements to create with! Besides the heart shapes in the kit, you can also use the coordinating add on die set, called Spring is in the Air, to create some scallop hearts! For these cards, I decided to use the exact same layout; I just simply changed out the colors on the card.

The patterned paper layer is simply a 4 x 3 inch piece of the red striped card base from the kit. Cut a 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inch piece of white cardstock and emboss it with your favorite embossing folder. Create the scalloped heart from a piece of white cardstock. Trim down one of the pink hearts from the kit and add it behind the scallop. Super simple and so pretty!
Elegant Alternatives
Now let’s talk about how to create some simple yet elegant designs. Red, white and black are the perfect color combination for creating a more formal or elegant style card.
The first card features the large, scalloped die cut heart as the focal point. Use the add on die set to create the heart and then emboss the center of the heart to give it more depth and dimension. Cut a 1-1/2 x 5-1/2 inch piece of the red card base from the kit. Matte out the red striped paper with a 1-3/4 x 5-1/2 inch piece of black cardstock. Layer all the hearts together and add the greeting.

The second card idea features the “string of hearts” from the kit. Start by embossing a white card base. Cut a 4 x 3 inch piece of the red card base. Add a 3 x 3-1/2 inch piece of black paper and adhere to the center of the card front. Add a “string of hearts” across the center. Take one of the foil heart stickers and add it to the center of the white hearts. There are 18 long strands of hearts in the kit which you can use to create a variety of different designs.
Stepped Up Paper Pumpkin Cards
The last couple of paper pumpkin alternatives are really just a stepped up version of the original designs. These first two alternatives feature the beautifully detailed foil elements in the kit.

Create the focal point as instructed by the kit and adhere it to a Real Red card base. The embossed layer for the first card is a 1 x 4-1/4 inch piece of white cardstock. Add a 3/4 x 4 inch piece of black cardstock. The black layer for the second card is simply a 1/2 x 3 inch piece of black cardstock.

The third card idea features a 2 x 5-1/2 inch piece of the pink marbled card base from the kit. Emboss a 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inch piece of white cardstock. Matte out the white cardstock with a 2 x 4-1/4 inch piece of black cardstock. Decorate as desired.
The last card idea features the large panel of pre-printed hearts. Cut that panel down to 3-1/4 x 5-1/8 inches. Add a few 2-3/4-inch-long scrap pieces of red paper on each side and adhere to an embossed card base.
