Ahoy, crafting friends! The new Friendly Seagulls stamp set from Stampin’ Up! is here to bring the salty sea air to your crafting table. These charming, feathered friends will make you smile with their delightful expressions and playful poses.
To get your creative juices flowing, here are six card ideas featuring the Friendly Seagulls stamp set. We’ll explore fun techniques like coloring with Stampin’ Blends and ink blending to make these seagulls pop off your cards.
Group of Friendly Seagulls
The Friendly Seagulls stamp set has such adorable images and quirky sayings. There are so many fun ways to use this set in your card making. The first couple of cards feature different groupings of the seagull images.
The inspiration for the first card came from the Stampin’ Up! catalog. I simply changed out the colors and papers. Cut three pieces of white cardstock at 1-3/4 x 2 inches. Stamp a different seagull image on each of the pieces using Early Espresso or black ink. Color with Stampin’ Blends, using Gray Granite to color the wings and Daffodil Delight to color the beak and feet. Layer the seagulls across a 3 x 5-1/2 inch piece of patterned paper.
The second card features a fun and simple way to add dimension. Start with a 1-1/2 x 5 inch piece of Misty Moonlight cardstock and dovetail one end. Cut a 3 x 3-3/4 inch piece of patterned paper. Lay the pieces together on the card front. Cut a 1-1/2 x 3 inch piece of Crumb Cake cardstock and tear the top of the paper to create the worn edge. Stamp a few images on the torn paper using Crumb Cake ink. Cut a 2-1/2 inch circle shape and cut about a 1/2 inch off the left side. Ink blend a bit of Misty Moonlight onto the bottom of the circle shape. Arrange the pieces on the card front as shown. Stamp, color and cut out the seagulls with a scissors; then add them to the card front with stampin’ dimensionals.
Quirky and Cute
These next couple of Friendly Seagull card ideas feature some simple layering but just one seagull instead of a group of them. This time I used a few of the quirky sayings too! Both cards feature patterned paper and cardstock layers. Here are the dimensions for the layers:
Card#1 – Lost Lagoon cardstock layer 3-1/2 x 3 inches; Patterned Paper Layer 3 x 4-1/2 inches; Early Espresso layer 3/4 x 4 inch piece dovetailed; 2-1/2 inch circle shape
Card #2 – Dark blue checkered patterned paper layer 2-3/4 x 4-1/2 inches; Basic White embossed layer 3 x 3-3/4 inches, Lighter blue checkered patterned paper-1/2 x 3 inches; 2-1/2 inch circle shape
These quirky and cute little “love you more” sayings would make some fun Valentine’s Day cards! Simply change out the paper colors to use these layouts and the Friendly Seagulls stamp set for Valentine’s Day this year.
Simple Masking
The last two Friendly Seagulls card ideas feature a simple masking technique using a 3-inch circle shape. Die cut the circle shape from a piece of white cardstock. Set aside the circle shape and use the negative space leftover as a mask to do a bit of ink blending. Lay the circle shape mask on a white card front and ink blend some Lost Lagoon (first card) or Misty Moonlight (second card) in the circle. It creates a really fun background for the seagulls. Be sure to watch the video to see this technique in action.
Once the ink blended circle is added, you are ready to decorate the card. Use a variety of small pieces of patterned paper and cardstock to add a few layers. The torn Crumb Cake cardstock gives the appearance of sand or a beach. The other pieces of paper simply add color and texture to the card.
