Gift Packaging Idea with 12 x 12 Paper

Gift packaging doesn’t have to be complicated—or expensive! With just a single sheet of 12×12″ paper and some clever folding, you can create custom gift packaging in minutes. No measuring, cutting, or fancy tools are required. Whether you’re wrapping a small gift, party favors, or handmade treats, this quick DIY gift package idea is a perfect solution for any occasion.

Folding the 12 x 12 Paper

The hardest part about this gift packaging idea is deciding what piece of patterned paper to use! Choose a 12 x 12” piece of double-sided patterned paper. Since we will be creating multiple different folds, I recommend a piece of paper with a non-directional pattern.

Once you have selected the paper, you are ready to get started! Since you are using double sided paper, one pattern will be for the inside and one pattern will be the outside of the gift package. Place the 12 x 12″ piece of paper in front of you with the inside pattern facing up.

1. Fold the 12 x 12″ paper in half, diagonally, from corner to corner.
2. Open up the 12 x 12” sheet of paper. Fold the opposite corners inward to the fold line created in Step#1. The paper will look like a kite (Refer to #2 in the picture).
3. Fold the bottom point of the paper towards the top so that the point overhangs the holly paper a bit shown in picture #3.
4. Fold the tip of the that point over the top of the two side panels and secure it to the inside of the bag.
5. Fold in both sides of the bag so they line up next to the middle folded section. Once the sides are folded in, the bag will look like picture #5.
6.  Fold over the top part of the bag to create the flap (Refer to picture #6)

Decorating the Gift Package

Now that you have created the gift packaging, you are ready to decorate it! You can really decorate these packages with any supplies you have on hand. Add a bit of ribbon and some type of focal point. For these gift packages, the circle shape decoration became the closure to keep the package closed. Be sure to watch the video for some tips on creating the closure.
