Snowman and Top Hat Card Ideas

The holiday season is the perfect time to create a few whimsical cards that will bring smiles to everyone’s faces! Today, I’m sharing two delightful snowman card ideas: one using the partial die-cutting technique and the other featuring a simple snowman top hat design. These projects are great for the holidays or simply to send some cheer during the winter season.

Snowman Top Hat Card

First let’s talk about this snowman top hat card. This particular design can be used for a variety of occasions. You can create a top hat for a snowman, a pilgrim hat, or even use it for St. Patrick’s Day. Check out the pilgrim hat HERE. Simply change out the colors and decorate it for any of these occasions.

Snowman and Top Hat Card Ideas

To create this card, simply start with a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch piece of black cardstock. Score the 8-1/2 inch size at 4-1/4 inches to create a standard card base. This is a landscape style top folding card which means the fold of the card is at the top. The brim of the hat is 1-inch wide and runs the full length of the bottom of the card base (5-1/2 inches). Basically, you need to cut a 1 x 3-1/4 inch section from each side of the card base to create the top hat. Be sure to watch the video for some tips on this cutting process.

Snowman Card

This second snowman card idea is a fun way to use the partial die cutting technique and your circle dies. This simple technique enables me to transform a rectangular card base into a circle shaped card base! Yes, this fun snowman card is a top folding card. It’s super simple to create too!

There are just a few quick steps to complete this adorable snowman card:

  1. Prepare Your Card Base: Cut a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch piece of Basic White cardstock. Score the 8-1/2 inch side at 4-1/4 inches to create a standard card base.
  2. Position Your Die: Place the 4-inch deckled circle die on the edge of the front panel of the card which has the fold. Be sure to allow some of the die to hang off the edge of the cardstock. This ensures only part of the die will be cut into the white cardstock. Note: You can use any circle die to create the snowman head.
  3. Partial Die-Cutting: Run the card through your die-cutting machine. The die will cut out all of the cardstock except the small section in which the die was overhanging the cardstock. This is where the fold for the card will be.
  4. Decorate the Snowman: Use black cardstock for the snowman’s hat and colored scraps for the holly leaves, berries, and nose. The carrot nose was created with a tree die from the Snowy Wonder die set. Create the eyes with some black colored embellishments or circle shapes. Grab the full tutorial below.
  5. Add Your Sentiment: Stamp a cheerful winter greeting inside the card.
