Today I have 9 alternate card designs and a fun DIY Christmas project idea to share which feature the supplies from the November 2024 Paper Pumpkin kit called Filled with Joy. Don’t have this month’s kit? You can certainly use these ideas with any supplies you have on hand.
Paper Pumpkin Stockings
The November 2024 paper Pumpkin kit includes all the supplies to create 8 Christmas stockings with coordinating ornament tags. Typically, I create at least one of each of the projects as featured in the kit. However, with this particular kit, I turned everything into alternative designs including the stockings!
The first project I created was this farmhouse style swag with the 8 stocking from the kit. Each stocking is attached to a 6-foot-long piece of burlap ribbon using the clips provided in the kit. Next, add a bit of Christmas greenery and berries in each stocking. Decorate the stocking with some star ornaments and jingle bells. I added a bit of buffalo check ribbon to give it more of a farmhouse theme. Most of these decorations you can pick up at the dollar store.
Alternative Card Ideas
Now let’s focus our attention on using the tags and ornaments from the November 2024 Paper Pumpkin kit. The kit came with 8 tags and 12 ornaments. Yep, I had a few extra ornaments in my kit! The first couple of alternate card ideas feature Pool Party as the primary color. This kit has some interesting color combinations, but it was a fun creative challenge!
The patterned paper was not part of the kit. It comes from the Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack. It was the perfect color and design for creating these alternatives.
The first card is a simple panel style card. Cut two pieces of DSP at 1-1/2 x 3-3/4 inches. The white cardstock is 2 x 3-3/4 inches. I used the Snowflake Sky 3D embossing folder for all the cards. The second card idea features a 3-1/2 x 4-1/4 embossed layer. The DSP layer is 3-1/2 x 1-1/2 inches.
This last card idea features several different DSP and cardstock layers. The DSP layer is 2-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches. the pink layer is actually one of the tags from the kit. The pool party cardstock layer is a 1 x 4-1/2 inch piece. The ornament focal point is adhered to a 2-1/4 x 3-1/4 inch piece of embossed white cardstock. All the cards feature the ornaments and greeting from the kit.
Tag Layers
Since we already created a beautiful swag with the stockings, we can use the tags from the kit to create additional alternative card designs. Tags work perfect for showcasing a focal point or even as a layer in the background. Let’s take a look at some of the card layouts featuring the tags.
This first card idea features the use of two of the pool party tags from the kit. Start with a 2-3/4 x 3-3/4 inch piece of embossed white cardstock. Adhere one tag to the upper left corner and one to the lower right corner of the white cardstock.
The second card idea features the pink tag as a layer behind the focal point. Cut two pink tags in half. Use the halves, without the tag hole, as a layer behind the 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inch piece of embossed white cardstock. The pool party layer is -3/4 x 5 inches. The DSP layer is 1-1/2 x 5 inches.
The last two card ideas feature a fun way to use the other halves of the two tags. The part of the tag, with the hole in it, is underneath the 2-3/4 x 3-3/4 inch embossed white cardstock piece. For this first card, the pink tag is adhered to the top of a 3-1/2 x 4 inch piece of DSP. For the second card, the pink tag is adhered to the side of the 3 x 5 inch piece of DSP.
Triadic Color Combination
The last two Paper Pumpkin alternative card ideas are a bit retro! they were inspired by three different colors in the ornaments from the kit. I pulled out my Color Coach so that I could choose a color palette. And wouldn’t you know it, I found a triadic color combination! Triadic colors are evenly spaced around the color wheel. For these cards, I chose Pool Party, Poppy Parade and Very Vanilla as my triadic colors. The color combination includes a bold, soft and neutral color. Super fun!
Start with Poppy Parade as your base color, then add pops of pool party and very vanilla to tone it down. The layout for the first card includes a 3-1/4 x 4-1/2 inch piece of embossed vanilla cardstock. Add a 1-1/2 x 5-1/2 inch piece of pool party behind the vanilla cardstock. Rest the focal point on a blue tag from the kit with a 2-1/4 x 2 inch Poppy Parade layer behind the tag.
The layout for the second card features a 2-3/4 x 4-1/2 inch piece of embossed vanilla cardstock. Add a 3-1/4 x 3-1/2 inch pool party layer behind the vanilla cardstock. Place the ornament on a blue tag from the kit and add a greeting.
