Take your card making from ordinary to extraordinary simply by adding some Pearlized Enamel Effects. These card ideas feature a fun way to add some depth and dimension to your patterned papers without a lot of fuss! The cards feature one of the sheets of patterned paper from the Sentimental Christmas Designer Series Paper Pack. However, keep in mind that you can add these liquid pearls to any project.
Cutting Template
First let’s talk about how I cut up the 12 x 12 inch piece of patterned paper. The paper is from the Sentimental Christmas Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack from Stampin’ Up! this particular piece requires a bit of planning before you cut it to make sure you capture the different images.
Basically, you will cut the patterned paper into three strips. The first strip is 3 x 12 inches. The second strip is 4 x 12 inches and the last piece will be 5 x 12 inches.
Start by cutting a 3 x 12 inch piece, first, off the left side of the paper. Take the 3 x 12 inch piece and cut a 3 x 5-1/4 inch piece from the top. This will enable you to capture the pine branches. Next, cut a 3 x 5 inch piece from the bottom. This is the piece which is showcased on this first card idea along with a 3/4 x 5 inch piece of embossed white cardstock.
Next, cut the 4 x 12 inch strip from the patterned paper. Cut a 4 x 5-1/2 inch piece from the top to capture the lantern image. Next, cut a 4 x 5-1/2 inch piece from the bottom to capture all the trees. Take that 4 x 5-1/2 inch piece and cut a 1/2 inch off the right side of it.
The remaining 5 x 12 inch piece can be cut any way you want. I have not used it yet but I will focus on cutting the bottom of it so I can capture as much of the scene as possible.
Pearlized Enamel Effects
Now let’s talk about how to elevate your card making by adding some pearlized enamel effects (also called liquid pearls). I chose this patterned paper to dress up the snowflakes and pine branches with some liquid pearls.
Before adding the liquid pearls, I recommend assembling the cards. Take the 4 pieces, cut from the template above, and adhere them to a Pretty Peacock card base as shown.
To create the background for this third card, add a 1 x 5-1/4 inch piece of embossed white cardstock next to the 3 x 5-1/4 inch piece.
Once you have completed the layout for the cards, you are ready to add the pearlized enamel effects. The bottle has a fine tip applicator so it’s very easy to apply it in drops to the patterned paper. I used it to create a few white berries on the pine branches and to decorate the stars and snowflakes.
Snowflake Card Idea
This last card idea features the use of Pearlized Enamel Effects to elevate the snowflake design. I simply added the liquid pearls to various parts of the snowflakes which are right on the patterned paper. So simple and a great way to dress up the card!
The layout for this card is a 4 x 3 inch piece of DSP with a 3-1/4 x 4-1/4 inch white cardstock matte. Add a greeting and a bit of ribbon to dress it up even more. Be sure to watch the video for a little ribbon trick!
