August 2024 Paper Pumpkin Alternatives

Today I have 8 alternate card designs to share which feature the August 2024 Paper Pumpkin kit called Time for Cake. Don’t have this month’s kit? You can certainly use the card layouts with any supplies you have on hand.

Paper Pumpkin Kit Projects

The August 2024 Paper Pumpkin kit includes all the supplies you need to make 9 cards; 3 of each of the 3 different designs. And one of the designs is a fun fold card! The kit also includes 9 coordinating envelopes.

I like to create one of each of the cards as featured in the kit. However, I save the rest of the supplies to create a variety of alternative designs. There are so many possibilities!

The August 2024 Paper Pumpkin kit comes with different card bases which actually have a design printed on the front and back of the card base. This makes it so easy to cut up the card base and use it as designer paper for additional card making! So that’s exactly what I did.

Alternate Fun Fold

The first paper pumpkin alternative I have to share with you features the accordion style fun fold with the printed candles. The kit card design was simply the fun fold adhered to a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 inch piece of blue printed cardstock. However, I saved that blue cardstock for some of the other alternate designs.

I created my own fun fold card base to support the accordion folded candle piece from the kit. So it’s basically two fun fold cards in one!

Start by cutting a 6-1/2 x 5-1/2 inch piece of Night of Navy cardstock. Score the 6-1/2 inch side at 2-1/4 inches to create a fun fold card base.

Cut a 2 x 5-1/4 inch piece of the blue patterned paper from the kit and adhere it to the front flap of the Night of Navy cardstock, Next, cut a 4 x 5-1/4 inch piece of the peach-colored paper from the kit and adhere it to the inside of the Night of Navy fun fold card.

Adhere the bottom of the accordion folded candle section to the inside of the card as shown. The flap on the card front fits in between the accordion folds which enables it to open and close with ease. Be sure to watch the video to see this fun fold in action!

Alternate Designs

The accordion fun fold candle section also makes a fabulous focal point! You are able to create 5 cards from just one of those accordion fun fold pieces in the kit. This means you can create 15 alternate designs just from those 3 fun fold cards in the kit!

Simply cut up the fun fold on all the score line except the last one. The last second of the fun fold piece has the white center. Cut that last piece at 4-1/4 inches so you can use it to create the first alternate design. Take one of the envelopes and cut two pieces measuring 3 x 1 inches. Adhere those pieces to the left and right side of a Night of Navy card base before adhering the white candle section (cut from the fun fold).

The second alternate design features a 2-5/8 x 3-3/4 inch piece of the candle piece in the center of a white card base. Add two pieces, cut from an envelope, which measure 1 x 3-3/4 inches.

The layout for the third card features a 2 x 4-3/4 inch piece of the dark pink envelope paper. The candle piece measures 2-1/2 x 3-3/4 inches.

The layout for the fourth card features two 1 x 3 inch pieces adhered to the left and right sides of the white cardstock. The candle focal point piece measures 2-1/2 x 3-3/4 inches.

The last card features a variety of different panels cut from the supplies and envelopes in the kit. The dark blue panels measure 1-1/8 x 3-3/4 inches. The center candle piece measures 1-1/2 x 3-3/4 inches. The bottom piece, cut from an envelope measures 3/4 x 4-1/4 inches.

Envelope Scraps

The last couple of paper pumpkin alternate ideas feature layouts created with leftover scraps. These pieces came from cutting up the envelopes in the kit.

The second card idea features 4 different size pieces to create the layout. One of my favorite designing techniques is playing around with the scraps. It’s like putting together a puzzle. Just lay the pieces out on a 3-3/4 x 5 inch piece of white cardstock to create a design. Trim them up a bit for perfect fit! The top floral piece measures 1-3/8 x 3-5/8. The two dark blue pieces measure 1-3/4 x 2-1/2 inches and 3-1/4 x 7/8 inches. The small peach colored piece measures 1-3/4 x 1 inches.
