I enjoy playing around with different ways to cut up an entire 12 x 12 inch sheet of patterned paper for card making. As such, I have an easy 6-card diagonal one sheet wonder template to share which you can use two different ways! The cards feature the To Market Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind this easy one sheet wonder template can be used with ANY patterned paper.
One Sheet Wonder Templates
First let’s talk about the one sheet wonder template for 12 x 12 inch sheets of patterned paper. I actually created two templates so that I could illustrate how to cut your paper to create cards in either portrait or landscape style. If you are using paper with a pattern that is directional, you will need to pay attention to the direction of the paper when you make the cuts. If your paper is non-directional, then you can create portrait or landscape style regardless of which template you use.
Basically, you want to create 6 pieces which measure 4 x 5-1/4 inches. Use the first template to create the pieces for a portrait style card. The second template illustrates how to cut 5-1/4 x 4 inch pieces for a landscape style card. Be sure to watch the video to see the cutting process in action!
The 3/4 x 4 inches are used to decorate the inside of each of the 6 cards! It’s a great way to use the entire piece of patterned paper to decorate in the inside and outside of each card.
Portrait Style
Once you create the pieces for a portrait style card, you are ready to add the diagonal cuts! You will cut two of the 4 x 5-1/4 inch pieces of patterned paper at the same time. Be sure to have the two different patterns facing up.
For these cards, one piece should have the flower pattern facing up while the other piece should have the polka dot pattern facing up. Stack the two pieces of paper together and make a cut, diagonally, from corner to corner. You can choose to create the diagonal cut from left to right or right to left.
Once you have cut the two pieces of patterned paper, you will end up with 4 pieces; two which have the floral pattern and two with the polka dot pattern. Shuffle the pieces around so you end up with two different patterns which fit together side by side diagonally. Repeat this cutting process with the remaining 4 pieces of 4 x 5-1/4 inch patterned paper. Adhere two triangular pieces of patterned paper to 6 different card bases.
You can create a total of 6 cards from one sheet of 12 x 2 inch patterned paper! This second set of cards simply features a different piece of patterned paper and a few vegetables for the focal point.
Landscape Style
Of course, you can also use this one sheet wonder template to create cards in landscape style. If you have paper with a directional pattern, use the second template to cut up the paper. You will end up with 6 pieces of patterned paper measuring 5-1/4 x 4 inches. Place two patterns together and create the diagonal cuts. Once you create the diagonal cuts on all 6 pieces, shuffle the pieces around so you have two different patterns for each of the 6 cards.
Keep in mind that once you make the diagonal cut, you cannot flip the paper over to use the pattern on the back as the pieces will not fit together side by side. This is why you must create the diagonal cut, with the two different patterns facing up, at the same time.
