Last week I shared a few fun ways to create a window for your card. This week, let’s look at how to change those window cards into shaker cards! And I have two easy ways to create a shaker card.
The cards feature the Charming Duck Pond Bundle from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind you can use any supplies you have on hand.
Traditional Style
First let’s talk about how to create a standard style shaker card. Basically, you need to use a punch or die to create a window in a piece of cardstock. You can use any shape to create the window. For this card, I started with a 4 x 5-1/4 inch piece of Pretty Peacock cardstock. I die cut a window in the top part of the cardstock using one of the Charming Duck Pond Dies. next, I adhered a 3-3/4 x 3-3/4 inch piece of a window sheet behind the opening.
Typically, I would add stampin’ dimensionals all around the circular window shape. The stampin’ dimensionals keep the shaker elements contained to the circle. However, this time I decided to die cut the circle shape right into a foam adhesive sheet. It worked out fabulous!
Simply lay the die on the foam adhesive sheet and run it back and forth through your embossing machine a couple of times. I trimmed the cattail pieces off the foam circle and then adhered the entire piece over the window sheet. Since it’s the same die I used to create the window in the first place, it fit perfectly!
Cut a 3-3/4 x 3-3/4 inch piece of patterned paper. Sprinkle some loose frosted dots in the center of the patterned paper and adhere the foam circle shape over the top. Be sure to watch the video to see this process in action.
Fun Fold Shaker Card
The second way to create an easy shake card is to use a clear envelope. This is a great way to make a shaker card without having to use any dies to create a window. Simply slide a 4 x 5-1/4 inch piece of patterned paper, or paper with stamped images, into a clear envelope. Add a variety of shaker elements such as loose frosted dots or even some die-cut pieces into the envelope. Seal up the envelope and adhere it to the front of a card base.
That’s exactly what I did when creating this card. However, the shaker portion of the card is on the inside, but you can view it from the front of the card because of the fancy window cut into the card front. I wanted to step up the clear envelope shaker card and turn it into a fun fold card! It’s like a card within a card.
When you open up the card front, it exposes the shaker card on the inside. And when you lift up the shaker portion, you will find a place to write or stamp a message. Fun, hey? Be sure to watch the video and download the tutorial to get all the details on how to create this shaker card.
