Today we are going to play around with the Sophisticated Sled bundle again! I’m going to show you a fun and simple designing technique. We are basically going to take a card design and recreate it with different supplies and colors. It’s just like using a sketch as inspiration. It’s also a great way to use your card designs over and over again!
Sophisticated Sled
The cards feature the Sophisticated Sled bundle from Stampin’ Up! This is one of the many NEW online exclusives launched this month. Learn more about this bundle HERE.
First let’s talk about the layout for these first two cards. Having a card layout (or design) to start out with helps lay the foundation for creating additional cards. Adding different layers of cardstock and patterned paper is the key to creating a card layout or design. I typically like to use between three-four layers when creating the design.
The layers for the first include a combination patterned paper and cardstock. Start with a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 inch piece of patterned paper to cover the entire card front. I am using some of the new Iconic Celebrations Designers Series Paper (DSP). The cardstock layers include a 2 x 4 inch piece of Early Espresso and a 2-1/2 x 4 inch piece of white cardstock. Notice how the cardstock pieces are layered together.
For the second card, start with a 4 x 5-1/4 inch piece of embossed white cardstock. Add a 2 x 4 inch piece of patterned paper and a 3/4 x 4 inch piece of Early Espresso cardstock as layers.
Once you have the card layouts (background design) you can create the focal point. For these cards, the focal point for both cards is the same.
Alternate Ideas
The first two Sophisticated Sled card ideas were the inspiration for these next two card ideas. The card layouts are identical to the first two cards. In other words, the measurements for the patterned paper and cardstock are the same. I simply changed out the colors and the focal point.
How fun and simple is that? You can create as many variations as you want using these two card layouts. Just get creative with it!
