Partial Die Cut Fun Fold Cards

Let’s do some partial die cutting today! It’s a fun and simple technique which enables you to turn a standard card into a fun fold card.  And I have two different ways you can use this technique in your card making.

The cards feature the Sophisticated Sled Bundle from Stampin’ Up! This is one of the many NEW online exclusives! However, keep in mind you can use any supplies you have on hand with this technique.

Partial Die Cutting

First let’s talk about the partial die cutting technique! It involves cutting part of the die shape into piece of cardstock with a metal die. This technique will work with many different dies and can be used in a variety of ways. However, I do recommend using larger die shapes for this technique.

Lay the die towards the edge of the card base and run it part way through your embossing machine. The machine will only cut the part of the die that goes under the pressure point or center of the embossing machine. Once you have the shape partially cut into the cardstock, you need to trim off the excess cardstock. I recommend watching the video to see this process in action.

Sophisticated Sled Card Ideas

Now that you know how to use this technique, you are ready to create a card and decorate it! And I have two different ways you can use this technique with the Sophisticated Sled Bundle.

The first way you can use the partially die cut wreath is simply as it is. In other words, the wreath becomes the handle or opener for this fun fold card. The cool thing about cutting the wreath into the card front is that you can stamp the wreath image directly onto the partially die cut area. You can also stamp the wreath first and then complete the partial die cutting. Or, in this case, I chose to partially cut the wreath on the card front and then add a separate wreath image over the top.

The second way you can use the partial die cut wreath is to add a sled behind it! This second card is my favorite as the wreath and sled together makes the card so stunning! Be sure to watch the video to learn how to assemble the sled and secure it to the wreath.
