Easy Graduation Pop-Up Card

Learn how to create an easy graduation pop-up card. It’s a fun way to create a unique and special card for your graduate. And I have two different ways you can use this fun fold design in your card making.

Creating the Fun Fold Pop-Up

First let’s talk about how to create the fun fold section which is basically a gatefold style card. There are two different ways you can create the base of the card.

The first way to create the base of the card is to start with a 8-1/2 x 3-1/2 inch piece of cardstock. Score 2-1/8 inches in on left side and 2-1/8 inches in on the right side of the card stock. This will create two “gates” for the card front.

The second way to create the base of the card is to start with an 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 inch piece of cardstock. This creates a taller card. Score 2-1/8 inches in on left side and 2-1/8 inches in on the right side of the card stock. This will create two “gates” for the card front.

The pop-up section is identical for both cards. Start by cutting a 1-1/4 x 2-1/2 inch piece of cardstock; score at 1 inch. Adhere the little piece of cardstock to the inside center of the gatefold card so the 1-inch flap overlaps the gatefolds. Cut a 3 x 3 inch square piece of cardstock and adhere it to the 1-inch flap so it forms a diamond shape.

Graduation Cards on Display

Now that you know how to create the base of the card, you are ready to decorate it! Of course, you can decorate the card in a variety of different ways to personalize it for your graduate.

The card stands for display and folds flat for ease in mailing. The difference between these two cards is simply the height. The first card folds down to a standard 5-1/2 x 4-1/4 inch size. The second card folds down to 7-1/2 x 4-1/4 inch size.
