Book Binding Z-Fold Card

Learn how to make a bookbinding z-fold card! It’s two fun fold cards all rolled into one! And I have 2 different ways you can use this design in your card making. The cards feature a variety of products from the Nature’s Sweetness Collection from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind you can use any supplies you have on hand with this fun fold design.

Book Binding Card

First let’s talk about how to create a book binding fun fold card. Start with a 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece of cardstock. Score the 11-inch side at 4-1/4 and 5-1/2 inches. The 5-1/2 inch score line simply creates a standard card base. The 4-1/4 inch score line creates the book binding section. Simply add a bit of glue to the section in between these two score lines to create the binding. Notice how the 1-1/4 inch section on the left side of this card is secure. The fun fold section is the 4-1/4 x 4-1/4 inch section on the right side of the card.

It’s a very easy fun fold design and definitely one of my favorites! Once you have created the base of the fun fold card, you can decorate it with any supplies you have on hand. This means you can use this design to create cards for ANY occasion! Super fun!

Adding the Z-Fold

Now that you know how to create the base of a book binding card, you are ready to add a z-fold section! You will be using the exact same measurements, as described above, to create the base of the fun fold card. However, you will add one additional score line at 2-1/8 inches. The base of the card will have a score line at 2-1/8, 4-1/4 and 5-1/2 inches. Create the book binding section the same way as previously discussed. Take the 2-1/8-inch section and fold it back onto itself to create the z-fold section. That’s it!

For the cards I am sharing today, I added a 3-1/4 x 4-1/4 inch piece of cardstock to the 2-1/8 inch section of the z-fold. This becomes the cardstock piece in which to create the focal point. However, you can really add any size cardstock piece or die cut shape to the z-fold section to create a focal point. Be sure to watch the video to see the assembly in action!

You can create a book binding z-fold card using any colors and any supplies! So many possibilities with this fun fold design!

Fun Fold Variations

Of course, you can also change the orientation of the card to create different variations of this fun fold. I put together a few examples of the book binding z-fold card in landscape and portrait style. The landscape style cards open horizontally while the portrait style cards open vertically. You can easily decorate a book binding z-fold card in landscape or portrait style without changing any of the card base measurements.
