Turn a Standard Card into a Fun Fold

Learn how to turn a standard card into a fun fold card! A standard size card is simply a card which measures 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 inches when closed. And I have 2 different ways you can use this design in your card making.

The cards feature the Bright Skies Bundle and the Sunny Days Series Paper from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind you can use any supplies you have on hand with this fun fold design.

Standard Card to Fun Fold

First let’s talk about how to create the standard card base. Start with a 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece of white cardstock. Score the 11-inch side at 5-1/2 inches to create a top folding card base. This standard size card measures 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 inches when closed. Now that you have a standard card base, you are ready to create the fun fold section.

Open up the card base and place it in your paper trimmer so the 11-inch side is horizontal. Cut 3-1/2 inches off the card base. You will end up with a 3-1/2 x 4-1/4 inch piece of white cardstock. The card base will now have a 2 x 4-1/4 inch section at the top which is the fun fold flap for the card. Take the 3-1/2 x 4-1/4 inch piece of white cardstock and cut the 3-1/2 inch side down to 3 inches. This 3 x 4-1/4 inch piece will become the front panel for this fun fold card. However, do not adhere it to the card front until you add the various piece of patterned paper. Be sure to watch the video to see the creation of this card in action.

Landscape Style

Now that you know how to turn a standard card into a fun fold, you can use this template to create cards for any occasion! You can also use this template to create a card in landscape style. This second card idea features the use of the same fun fold template shared above. However, this time I simply turned the card base horizontally and decorated it in landscape style. It’s a great way to change the look of a card without changing all the measurements.

The measurements for the landscape style card base and the patterned paper pieces are the same as the first card. The only difference is that I changed out the colors and elements to decorate it. Be sure to download the tutorial to get all the details on both of these cards.
