Make Standard Cards from Patterned Paper

Learn how to turn your patterned papers into a standard card! And I have 2 different templates you can use in your card making. The cards feature the Trusty Tool Bundle and the Trusty Toolbox Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind you can use any supplies you have on hand with these card designs.

Standard Card Template

First let’s talk about a “standard” card size. Typically, this refers to any card which measures 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 inches when closed. There are actually two different ways you can cut your paper to create a standard card. For these first two cards, start with a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch piece of patterned paper. Score down the middle of the 8-1/2 inch side, at 4-1/4 inches, to create a standard card base!

Notice how the tools are showcased on the outside of the card and the grid paper on the inside. When you use your patterned papers to create cards, you are able to show off both sides of the paper! How fun is that? Of course, you can use this cutting template to create either a side or top folding card. Basically, you will be decorating the card in either portrait or landscape style.

Since we are working with patterned paper as the card base, you will need to provide some support to the card. For these cards, I added a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of Lost Lagoon cardstock to the inside of the card. The next layer features a 5 x 3-3/4 inch piece of white cardstock. This helps provide support and decorates the inside of the card. It’s a win win!

Second Card Template

There is a second way that you can cut your patterned paper to create a standard size card. Start with a 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece of patterned paper. Score down the middle of the 11 inch side, at 5-1/2 inches, to create a standard card base! These next two card ideas feature standard cards created using a 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece of patterned paper.

You still can create a top or side folding card. And, of course, you can decorate the card in either landscape or portrait style. Don’t forget to add some cardstock to the inside of the card for support!

The cards feature the Trusty Toolbox Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up! This particular paper pack is free with a qualifying order during Sale-A-Bration!
