The August 2023 Paper Pumpkin kit is called Meaningful Flowers. The kit contains all the supplies you need to create 8 cards; 4 of each of the 2 different designs. In this blog post, I will focus on some alternate ways to use the exclusive stamp set and the kit supplies to create a variety of cards!
Paper Pumpkin Kit Cards
This month’s paper pumpkin kit features two different meaningful flower designs. The Forget-Me-Not card is a fun fold design. The lotus flower card design was a top folding card. Both were beautiful! I like to create one of each of the cards from the kit before I start to create alternate designs.
The exclusive stamp set from this kit features a variety of images you can use to create the kit projects. There was also an extra stamp set in the kit which was a little gift for subscribers! You can use any of the stamp sets to create additional cards. Simply combine a few of your own supplies along with the kit supplies to enhance your card making experience with this kit. All of the alternative designs I created with the August Paper Pumpkin kit focus on the Forget-Me-Nots.
Ideas for Kit Supplies
The first two alternate card ideas feature the large bouquet of Forget-Me-Nots from the August Paper Pumpkin kit. I simply used some of my own supplies to create an alternate card layout which would showcase this beautiful spray of flowers.
The first card features a brand-new embossing folder called Distressed Tile. This embossing folder will be available in the September-December Mini catalog which launches on September 6th. However, keep in mind you can use any embossing folder you have on hand with this design. Simply cut a 3 x 5-1/2 inch piece of white card stock and emboss it. Cut a 3-3/4 x 3 inch piece of patterned paper, adhere it behind the embossed cardstock and then adhere to the Garden Green card front. Add the flower spray, a little greeting and any other embellishments you prefer.
The second card features a white card base embossed with the Timeworn Type 3D embossing folder. Add a 4-1/4 x 3 inch piece of patterned paper across the center of the card front. All of the cards feature one of the Inked Botanicals Designer Series Papers. Create some type of die cut shape for the flowers. In this case, I am showcasing one of the Nested Essentials dies from Stampin’ Up! Embellish the card as desired.
Ideas for the Card Base
The next set of cards feature a fun way to cut up the card bases from the August 2023 Paper Pumpkin kit. It’s a great way to double the number of cards you can make! Simply cut off the front fun fold section and use it as the focal point for the card. You can add embossed cardstock or patterned paper behind the flowers for a fun look!
The inside of the card base can also be used to create a card. For the next card (below), I cut the card base down to 3 x 5-1/4 inches. Create a 1 x 5-1/4 inch piece of embossed white cardstock. Add the two pieces to the card front as shown and then decorate as desired.
The last card idea features the card base cut down to 4-1/4 x 4 inches. You can add a bit of torn paper, scraps of DSP or any other supplies to decorate this card. I kept it simple with just a greeting, some linen thread and a bit of torn paper.
Exclusive Stamp Set
The next two card ideas feature a fun way to use the exclusive stamp set from the August 2023 Paper Pumpkin kit. Start by embossing the front of a white card base. I typically cut all my card bases at 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches and then score the 8-1/2 inch side at 4-1/4 inches. Next, cut three different colors of cardstock at 1-3/4 x 2-1/2 inches. The center blue piece is actually cut from one of the envelopes from the kit. Stamp the flower image on each of the different pieces of paper using a darker color ink. For example, the yellow piece was cut from Daffodil Delight cardstock, the image was stamped with Crushed Curry ink. Arrange the pieces across the card base and decorated as desired.
The second card features the flower image stamped on one of the Nested Essentials die cut shape. You can use any shape to create the focal point. Emboss the card front and add a 1 x 5-1/2 inch piece of Garden Green cardstock or cut this piece from one of the envelopes in the kit. Add a 1-5/8 x 5 inch piece of floral paper (cut from one of the kit envelopes).
Ideas for the Envelopes
The last two card ideas feature a few simple ways to use the pretty envelopes which come in the kit. You can use the entire envelope, just like a piece of patterned paper, once you cut it apart. Start by cutting off the sides of the envelope so you can open it up. Then simply cut the pieces you want to use in your card making.
The first card showcases the inside back part of the envelope. I Cut the sides down to 4-1/4 inches and adhere it to the card front. It makes a unique background for that large Forget-Me-Not floral spray from the kit.
The second card features a 5-1/2 x 3 inch piece of the envelope adhered across the center of the card front. I just let the paper do all the work on this one.
