Learn how to stamp images using a watercoloring technique! And I have two different ways you can use this technique in your cardmaking. The cards feature the Gorgeously Made Bundle and the Inked & Tiled stamp set from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind you can use any stamp set you have on hand with this technique.
Spritz and Stamp Technique
First let’s talk about the spritz and stamp technique. Start by choosing your ink color (or colors) and a stamp. Ink up the stamp image and then spritz it with water. You want to apply a spritz or two of water. Don’t soak the image, just get it a little wet so the ink starts to run. Once you have spritzed the image, stamp it on a piece of watercolor paper.
You can stamp and spritz the image as much as you want to. However, you do have to clean off and dry the image before re-inking it to avoid getting water on your ink pad. This watercolor stamping technique works with just about any stamp. The more solid the stamp image, the more watercolor look you will get.
Create Your Own Ink Pad
The second way you can use the watercolor stamping technique is to create your own ink pad. For this technique, a silicone mat works perfect! However, you can use a Styrofoam plate or any other surface that will enable you to “pool” some ink together. Start by tapping some ink, from your ink pad, onto the silicone mat. I used two different inks: Soft Sea Foam and Lost Lagoon. Spritz the ink on the silicone mat with a bit of water until you see the ink beading on the mat. You can use a water painter or brush to spread the ink around on your mat.
Once you have a thin layer of the water and ink mixture on the mat, you are ready to stamp! Take the image and press it into the water and ink mixture and then stamp it on a piece of watercolor paper. You can continue to stamp onto the mat and then onto the watercolor paper as much as you want to WITHOUT cleaning off the image! This is my favorite of the two techniques. Be sure to watch the video below to see both techniques in action!
The effect from either technique is just beautiful! It makes it so easy to create a watercolor look with your stamp images.
