Embossing with Ink

Learn how to take your embossing to a whole new level simply by adding ink! And I have two different ways you can use this fun technique in your card making. The cards feature the Delightful Doilies Hybrid Embossing Folder from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind you can use this technique with any embossing folders that you have on hand.

Embossing with Ink

First let’s talk about the inking technique. Basically, we will be applying ink to the inside of an embossing folder. You can simply open up the embossing folder and gently tap your ink pad onto the raised parts of the folder. Use a very gentle tapping motion to apply the ink. You can also use a brayer to apply the ink as well.

Once you have one of the inside sections of the folder covered with ink, you are ready to add your cardstock. Lay a 3-3/4 x 5 inch piece of white cardstock on the un-inked side of the embossing folder and close the folder. Run it through your embossing machine and it creates a beautiful, inked background.

And the background effect is different depending on which side of the folder you apply ink to. Notice how the two doily backgrounds, pictured above, have different designs. The first doily background is created by inking up the inside cover of the embossing. The second doily design comes from inking up the bottom part of the embossing folder. Both are stunning but I do like the look of the second one!

Card Ideas

Now that we have some beautiful backgrounds to play with, we are ready to make some cards! The cards feature Boho Blue and Night of Navy. I used the Boho Blue for the ink embossing technique. Start with a piece of Boho Blue cardstock for the base of the cards. Cut a 4 x 5-1/4 inch piece of Night of Navy cardstock. Adhere the 3-3/4 x 5 inch ink embossed white cardstock to the Night of Navy cardstock. This is the basic layout for both cards.

The focal point for the first card is simply a bit of the Countryside Inn Designer Series Paper. For the second card, the focal point features a few images from the Lasting Joy stamp set. For more card ideas featuring the products from the Countryside Inn suite, check out my latest post HERE.
