Learn how to create a trellis (or palette) style card design. It’s super simple and fun to make! And I have two different ways you can use this design in your card making. The cards feature the Queen Bee Bundle and the Abigail Rose Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind that you can use any supplies you have on hand with this card design.
Trellis Card
First let’s talk about the trellis card design. Start by create a top folding card base. Cut a 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece of cardstock. Score the 11-inch side at 5-1/2 inches to create the base of the card. Next, open up the card base and place it in your paper trimmer so the 11 inch side is resting at the top of the trimmer. Cut six 1/2-inch strips off the card front. Once you complete this step, you will be left with a 4-1/4 x 2-1/2 inch flap for your card front and six 1/2 x 4-1/4 inch strips.
Adhere two of the strips, vertically, to the card front. Basically, you will line up the bottom of the two strips with the bottom of the card base. Once you have adhered the two vertical strips, add the other four 1/2-inch strips horizontally across the card front. It creates a fun palette or trellis style design. I recommend watching the video to see the assembly of the trellis in action.
Alternate Design
This second trellis card design is very similar to the first one. The obvious changes made to the card are the colors. However, the not so obvious change is how I adhered the horizontal strips to create the trellis design. Yes, there are two different ways you can use this trellis design in your card making!
For the first card, the horizontal strips are adhered on top of the vertical strips. However, for this card design, you can see that the horizontal strips are adhered behind the vertical strips. Be sure to watch the video for some tips on how to do this.
