Learn how to make 2 cards with this simple die cutting technique! The cards feature the Friendly Gnomes stamp set from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind that you can use any supplies you have on hand with this technique.
Die Cutting Technique
First let’s talk about the die cutting technique. For these cards, I am using a 2-1/2 inch circle shape. However, this technique will work with just about any die cut shape. So if you don’t have a circle shape, try a square, rectangle or any other solid type of shape. Start with a 3-1/2 x 5-1/2 inch piece of white cardstock. Choose 3 different colors of cardstock. Scraps of cardstock work well for this technique. Cut 3 pieces of cardstock, in each of the 3 different colors, at 1/4 inches wide. The length of the cardstock pieces should be at least 4 inches. You want the pieces longer than the 3-1/2 inch width of the white cardstock.
Adhere the 1/4 inch wide pieces of colored cardstock across the white cardstock. Adhere the first piece about an inch below the top of the white cardstock. Alternate the colors as you adhere them and leave a little bit of white space in between. Once all the pieces are adhered to the white cardstock, trim off any excess cardstock hanging over the edge of the white cardstock. Next, take the 2-1/2 inch circle shape and die cut the circle shape from the center of the colored strips. You will use the die cut circle shape to create this first card. The leftover piece, the negative space, will be used to create the second card.
Friendly Gnomes
The second card features the leftover cardstock, the negative space, from cutting out the circle shape. I simply added a 3-1/4 x 3-1/4 inch piece of embossed white cardstock behind the circle space before adhering it to the Granny Apple Green card base. The cards feature the Friendly Gnomes stamp set from Stampin’ Up! I love the spring-theme and colors for these cards. A bit of Fresh Freesia, Pool Party and Granny Apple Green really gives these cards a fun look! You can really decorate these cards with any supplies you have on hand. And you can use any colors too! Here’s two different ways I decorated this card. I do like the addition of the flowers.
How cool is this technique? Since we started with a 3-1/2 x 5-1/2 inch piece of cardstock, we can make 2 cards! And there are no leftover scraps! I love using up my scraps right away. And it’s so fun to be able to make two cards with just one quick die cut!
