Fancy Card Design – Cottage Wreaths

Learn how to cut up a standard card base to create a unique and fancy card design! And the best part about this fancy card making idea is that you will not have any leftover scraps! The cards feature the Cottage Wreaths Bundle from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind that you can use any supplies you have on hand to create this fancy card.

Fancy Christmas Card

First let’s talk about how to create the fancy card design. Start with a 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece of Garden Green cardstock. Score the 11 inch side at 5-1/2 inches to create a standard top folding card base. Open up the card base and place it in your paper trimmer so the 11 inch side is at the top. Cut off a 1-1/2 inch piece from the card front. The piece will measure 1-1/2 x 4-1/4 inches. Next, cut off a 2-1/2 inch piece. The piece will measure 2-1/2 x 4-1/4 inches.

The 2-1/2 x 4-1/4 inch piece will become the focal point for the card. For this card, I simply created a layer behind and on top of the 2-1/2 x 4-1/4 inch piece of Garden Green cardstock. The black layer is 2-3/4 x 4-1/2 inches. The Garden Green layer (the piece we cut from the card front) is 2-1/2 x 4-1/4 inches. The last layer is a 2-1/4 x 4 inch piece of white embossed cardstock. Adhere all the layers together and then adhere to the card front. I recommend watching the video to see the creation of the card front in action!

Fancy Autumn Card

Once you create the fancy card design, you can really decorate it with any supplies that you have on hand. For the cards I am sharing today, I decided to create a Christmas and Autumn Themed card. It really showcases the versatility of the Cottage Wreath Bundle. The card base is exactly the same for both cards, the only difference between the two cards are the colors and decorations.
