Learn how to make super simple gatefold style fun fold card which stays closed! And I have 2 different ways you can use this fun fold design in your card making. The cards feature This Birthday Piggy Bundle and the Design a Daydream Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind that you can use any supplies you have on hand to create these fun fold cards.

Creating the Fun Fold

First let’s talk about how to create the gatefold style card base. Now this is not a traditional gatefold style card as the folds are not equal. Start with a 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece of cardstock. Score the 11 inch side at 2-1/4 and 7-3/4 inches. You will end up with two unequal “gates” or fun fold sections. The larger section is 3-1/4 x 4-1/4 inches. The smaller section is 2-1/4 x 4-1/4 inches. The card is the standard size, 5-1/2 x 4-1/4 inches when closed.

To decorate the card, cut two pieces of patterned paper at 2 x 4 inches. These pieces are for the smaller section on the front and inside of the card. Next, cut two pieces of a different patterned paper at 3 x 4 inches. Use these two pieces on the larger sections of the card front and inside of the fun fold cards.

Portrait Style

Now let’s talk about how to create this gatefold style fun fold card in portrait style. As with most card designs, you are able to create a whole new look for your card simply by changing the orientation. To create the portrait style card base, you will simply use the same measurements as the landscape style card.

The patterned paper measurements are the same too. However, be sure to pay attention to any directional patterned papers you may be using before cutting them. The closure for this gatefold style fun fold card is simply a piece of ribbon tied into a double knot around the entire card. The ribbon serves as a belly band which you can slide up or down to open the card.
