Hinge Fun Fold Card Ideas

Learn how to make a hinge fun fold card from one standard card base! And I have 2 different ways you can use this fun fold design in your card making. The cards feature the Apple Harvest Bundle and the Gingham Cottage Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind that you can use any supplies you have on hand to create these fun fold cards.

Portrait Style Hinge Fun Fold

First let’s talk about how to create the hinge fold. Start with a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch piece of cardstock. Score the 8-1/2 inch side at 4-1/4 inches to create the card base. Next, place the card base in your paper trimmer and cut off a 1-1/2 inch piece. You will end up with a 1-1/2 x 5-1/2 inch piece of cardstock. Score this piece at 4-1/4 inches to create the hinge for the fun fold card.

For the portrait style card, adhere the hinge section to the right side of the inside of the card base. Notice how you are missing a 1-1/2 inch section from the card front. This is where the hinge is secured. Cut a 4 x 5-1/4 inch piece of cardstock. Adhere a 1-3/4 x 5-1/4 inch piece of the Gingham Cottage Designer Series Paper to the right side of the white cardstock. Then adhere the white cardstock to the inside of the card over the top of the small hinge flap. Now you are ready to decorate your card! The hinge section makes a perfect spot for your greeting when creating in portrait style!

Landscape Style

The hinge fun fold card can also be created in landscape style. Start by creating the card base and hinge section with the same measurements as shared above. You can really adhere the hinge section anywhere on the base of the card. Notice how I moved that hinge section further up on the card base as compared to the portrait style card. I recommend choosing the stamp set you want to use first. The size of the stamp images will guide the placement of your hinge.

For the landscape style card, didn’t use the hinge for my greeting. Instead, I simply added a 2-3/4 inch die cut square shape to the hinge. The square die cut shape makes a perfect place to create the focal point for my card.
