Learn how to make an inside pop-up gatefold section in any card. It’s like a card within a card! And I have 2 different ways you can use this fun fold design in your card making. The cards feature the Fresh Cut Flowers stamp set and the NEW Fresh Cut Stems Dies from Stampin’ Up! However, keep in mind that you can use any supplies you have on hand to create these fun fold cards.
Inside Pop-Up Gatefold
First let’s talk about how to create the card base and the gatefold section. Start by cutting two full 8-1/2 x 11 inch sheets of cardstock. Cut one of the sheets in half, on the 8-1/2 inch side, at 4-1/4 inches so you end up with two pieces of cardstock measuring 4-1/4 x 11 inches. Cut the other sheet of cardstock in half on the 11 inch side so you end up with two pieces of cardstock measuring 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches.
Whether you are making the portrait style card or the landscape style card, you will need a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch piece and a 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece. The measurement for scoring these pieces differs depending on which style of card you are creating.
To create the inside pop-up gatefold card in portrait style, start by creating the card base. Score the 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece of cardstock, in half, at 5-1/2 inches to create the card base. Next, let’s create the gatefold section for the inside of the card. Take the 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch piece of cardstock and score the 8-1/2 inch side at 2-1/8 inch from the left and 2-1/8 inch from the right. Fold on the score lines to create the two flaps for the gatefold card. Adhere the two card bases together. I recommend watching the video to see the assembly of this card in action.
Landscape Style Gatefold
To create the inside pop-up gatefold card in landscape style, you will again start with a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch piece of cardstock and a 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece cardstock. Let’s create the card base first. Score the 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch piece of cardstock, in half, at 5-1/2 inches to create the card base.
Next, let’s create the gatefold section for the inside of the card. Take the 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece of cardstock and score the 11 inch side at 2-3/4 inch from the left and 2-3/4 inch from the right. Fold on the score lines to create the two flaps for the gatefold card. Adhere the two card bases together. I recommend watching the video to see the assembly of this card in action.
