Rubber Band Technique for Card Making

Have you heard of the rubber band technique for card making? It’s super simple and fun to play with! The technique involves stamping with rubber bands to create a fun background for your cards. The cards feature the Seal of Approval stamp set from Stampin’ Up! However, you can use this technique with any stamp set and supplies you have on hand.

Rubber Band Technique

First let’s talk about the rubber band technique. Simply wrap a bunch of rubber bands around one of your acrylic blocks, ink it up and stamp! It creates irregular lines when you stamp the rubber bands. The lines of blue color in the background of these cards were created with the rubber band technique. Just a couple of tips for you. I recommend using the same width of rubber bands. If you mix large and small widths together, only the large ones will stamp because they overpower the smaller ones. When you wrap the rubber bands you can Criss Cross them, twist them and/or lay them straight. Use a combination of these tactics to create a fun look.

The first card showcases the full effect of this technique in the background of a 4 x 5-1/4 inch piece of white cardstock. The layout for the second card features a 3-1/2 x 4-1/2 inch piece of white cardstock in the background. Notice how the lines from the rubber band create the look of water ripples on the white cardstock. By the way, does the second card design look a little familiar? I recently used this card layout with the Wonderful World DSP. Yes, I love to reuse my card layouts with other products and supplies. You can check out those card layouts HERE.

Seal of Approval Card Ideas

I love how the rubber band technique works so well with the Seal of Approval stamp set. It creates the look of water ripples and really enhances the images within this stamp set. The cards feature Tahitian Tide, one of the 2022-2024 In Colors. Of course, you can use any color blue to create the water. The first card design is another “reused” design. Be sure to check out all the fun layouts which you can use over and over again. The link is above.

The second card layout is another fun design which you can use over and over again. Start with a 2-1/2 x 4-1/4 inch piece of glimmer paper and adhere it across the card front. Cut a 3 x 4 inch piece of vellum and a 2-3/4 x 4 inch piece of white cardstock. Do all your stamping on the white cardstock.
