Learn how to make an easy 3D Pop Up card in both portrait and landscape style. The cards feature a variety of products from the New Horizons collection in the Stampin’ Up! January-June 2022 Mini Catalog. However, keep in mind you can use any supplies you have on hand to create these pop-up cards.
Portrait Style
The first way you can use the 3D pop-up section in your card making is to create the card in portrait style. Start by creating a standard card base from a 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece of Soft Succulent cardstock. Score the 11 inch side at 5-1/2 inches to create the base of the card. Next, cut a 4-1/4 x 5 inch piece of Soft Succulent cardstock. This piece of cardstock will be used to create the pop up section on the front of the card. Score the 5 inch side at 3/4, 1-3/4, 3-1/4 and 4-1/4 inches.
Take one of the pieces of the New Horizons Designer Series Paper and cut it down to 4-1/4 x 6 inches. Cut a 1-1/2 inch piece off the bottom of the DSP. This piece will be used to decorate the front of the 3D pop-up section. Adhere the DSP to the middle of the 4-1/4 x 5 inch piece of cardstock in between the two score lines. Adhere the 4-1/4 x 4-1/2 inch piece of DSP to the front of the card. Once you adhere the DSP to the card front, you are ready to adhere the pop-up section. I recommend watching the video to see the assembly of the pop-up section in action.
Landscape Style
The second way to use this 3D pop-up section in your card making is by creating the card in landscape style. The concept for creating the pop-up section is the similar to the portrait style card. However, the measurements for the card base the and length of the pop-up section are different. For this card, I used a different piece of patterned paper from the New Horizons DSP pack. I just love how easy it is to create beautiful cards with this DSP.
To create this style of card, start with a standard card base cut to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches. Score the 8-1/2 inch side at 4-1/4 inches to create the base of the card. Next, cut a 5-1/2 x 5 inch piece of cardstock to create the pop up section of the card. Use the same color cardstock as the base of the card. The pop-up section utilizes the exact same scoring measurements of 3/4, 1-3/4, 3-1/4 and 4-1/4 inches. Score the 5 inch side of the 5-1/2 x 5 inch piece of cardstock. I highly recommend watching the video to see the creation of the pop up section in action!
