Learn how to make 4 simple yet beautiful cards with the Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks from Stampin’ Up! Decorative masks are basically stencils and can be used in a variety of ways in your card making. These masks are a bit different from other stencils or masks used in card making as you can add more detail, depth and dimension to your card.
Layered Butterflies
The first two card ideas feature the layering butterfly decorative mask. The creation of the butterflies is a two-step process using the two different butterfly shapes on the decorative mask. The first shape creates a solid outline of the butterfly. It’s perfect for use with a lighter color ink. The second butterfly shape on the decorative mask is a more detailed image. This is perfect for use with a dark color as it adds the detail to the butterfly.
I recommend using a blending brush to add ink over the decorative mask. You can certainly use a sponge or sponge dauber if you prefer. However, the blending brush really glides over the mask easily and doesn’t get hung up on the detailed areas of the mask. To create these cards, use Highland Heather ink for the solid butterfly and use Gorgeous Grape ink for the detailed overlay. I recommend watching the video to see these decorative masks in action!
Layered Flowers
The flowers are created much like the two step layering for the butterflies.It’s a two-step process using the two different floral shapes on the decorative mask. The first shape creates the base of the flower. It’s perfect for use with a lighter color ink. The second floral shape on the decorative mask is a bit more detailed and is perfect for use with a dark color as it highlights different parts of the flowers.
There are a variety of different ways you can use the floral or butterfly decorative masks in your card making. You can use them to create a beautiful background on your cards. You can also use them as an embellishment on the card; simply cut out the image with a scissors. Of course you can also use a variety of different colors too!
