Whiskey Business – 4 Masculine Card Layouts with Scraps

The 4 masculine card layouts I am sharing today are a great way to up leftover scrap pieces of patterned paper. The cards feature the Whiskey Business stamp set from Stampin’ Up! as well as some scrap pieces of patterned paper from the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper pack. However, keep in mind you can use these card layouts with ANY supplies and scraps you have on hand. Just get creative with it!

Easy Layouts with Scraps

There are a variety of different ways to use up scraps of patterned paper. These easy card layouts are just like putting together a puzzle, simply arrange them on your card front so they fit together to create a 5-1/4 x 4 inch backdrop. The first thing I would recommend is to gather the scraps you would like to use up. Create a card base using one of the colors in the patterned paper. Then, simply lay your scrap pieces on the card front to create a pattern. I tend to have a variety of different lengths of scraps, so I try to fit them together, like a puzzle, on my card front. And these first two card layouts showcase that design technique in action.

For the first card, I simply used four 1 inch wide strips of patterned paper and cut them down to 4 inches in length. The last strip of patterned paper is 1-1/4 x 4 inches. The strips are adhered, side by side, down the front of the card. That’s it!

The second card layout features a variety of different size pieces of patterned paper. This is where I the design went together just like a puzzle. The strips measure: 1-1/4 x 4 inches, 2 x 4 inches and (2) pieces which are 1 x 4 inches. Cut all of the pieces and fit them together, like a puzzle, on the card front. Then simply decorate the cards as desired.

Scrappy Strip Techniques

The last two Whiskey Business card ideas feature some scrappy strip techniques. It’s a great way to use up 1 inch strips of patterned paper. The first card idea showcases a modified herringbone technique. Start by adhering two 1 x 6 inch strips diagonally across the center of a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of Early Espresso cardstock. Once those first two pieces are in place, then simply add 1 inch pieces across the top and bottom of the cardstock to create the pattern. Leave about a 1/4 inch of the early espresso cardstock showing in between each piece. You can also use any length of patterned paper as long as the width is 1 inch. Simply leave the excess length of the patterned paper hang off the cardstock and trim off the excess when you have completed the pattern.

The second card features the scrappy strip technique. This involves cut your scrap pieces, diagonally, to create the little strips. I would recommend watching my latest video to see this technique in action! Once you have created the scrappy strip background, simply decorate as desired.
