Hand Drawn Blooms – Adding Color to Embossed Images

It’s been awhile since I have shared some heat embossing techniques with you. So today I am featuring the Hand Drawn Blooms stamp set, from Stampin’ Up! with some simple tips and techniques for adding pops of color to embossed images. It creates a stunning look and you will be surprised at how easy it is!

Hand Drawn Blooms Card Ideas

The inspiration for these card ideas actually came from a beautiful project showcased in the 2020-2021 Stampin’ Up! Annual catalog. I loved the look of the heat embossed Hand Drawn Blooms with the little pops of color. It’s such a simple yet beautiful way to make your embossed images pop! And I have three different ways you can use this technique in your card making.

Hand Drawn Blooms - Adding Color to Embossed Images

This first card idea features the large floral bouquet image from the Hand Drawn Blooms stamp set. The image is embossed in white on some crumb cake cardstock. I recommend embossing the image on a light colored cardstock so that you have the ability to add pops of color. Once the image is embossed, simply add color to different parts of the image using your favorite coloring tools. I recommend Stampin’ Blends but other coloring tools will work well too.

Edge Design

After creating the first card, it gave me inspiration to create even more fun card designs! This next design features the heat embossing along the edge of the cardstock. Then simply add pops of color to the image using your favorite coloring tools. It creates such a beautiful look!

Now if you are not familiar with heat embossing, it involves the use of versa mark ink, some type of embossing powder and a heat tool. Start by inking up the image with versa mark. Stamp the image onto the cardstock, sprinkle with white embossing powder, tap off the excess powder and heat to set the image. Heat embossing gives an image a raised and shiny look. It’s quite beautiful!

Spotlighting the Hand Drawn Blooms

The third way you can use heat embossed images is to spotlight them. Simply heat emboss the Hand Drawn Blooms image on a scrap piece of cardstock and add a few pops of color. Then go ahead and cut out part of the image with a circle die or any other die cut shape you prefer. For these cards, I used the stitched circle die to create a beautiful focal point for the card.
