Ok, I just can’t stop playing with the gorgeous Butterfly Brilliance collection. So today I am showcasing these gorgeous butterflies on a Diagonal Z Fold Card. You have probably seen a variety of different card ideas featuring this fun fold. But you might be surprised at how easy it is to create it! Plus, I also have two additional card ideas to share which use up the triangular scraps of paper from creating the Diagonal Z Fold.
Creating the Diagonal Z Fold
The Diagonal Z Fold design starts with the creation of a regular Z Fold card. Cut a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch piece of cardstock. Score the 8-1/2 inch size at 2-1/8 and 4-1/4 inches to create the Z Fold card. Next, open up the card so that the scored sections are on the left side. Measure 2 inches up from the bottom of the card and make a little tick mark on the card. Place the card in your paper trimmer and line up the tick mark and the 4-1/4 inch score line in your paper trimmer. Cut from the 2 inch mark up to the center of the card (the 4-1/4 inch score line. Congratulations! You have just created the Diagonal Z Fold.
Decorating the Diagonal Panels
Now let’s talk about how to decorate it! Once you have created the Diagonal Z Fold card, it’s time to cut up some patterned paper to decorate it. Start by cutting a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of patterned paper. Measure 1-3/4 inches up from the bottom on the 5-1/4 inch side (the left side) and make a little tick mark. Place the paper in your paper trimmer. Line up the tick mark and the top right corner of the patterned paper in the groove of your paper trimmer and make the cut. Save the top triangular shape and I will show you how to create a quick and simple card.
Take the bottom diagonally cut piece of patterned paper and measure 1-7/8 inches from each side. You will be cutting out the center section of the patterned paper so that you end up with two pieces. Each piece will be used to decorate the panels of the Diagonal Z Fold card as shown. Then for the finishing touch, decorate and embellish the card as desired.
Using Up Scraps
The last two card ideas feature a fun way to use up the triangular scrap pieces from creating the Diagonal Z Fold cards. These first two card feature the triangular piece leftover from cutting the patterned paper for the inside panels. To create this card, cut a 1 x 5-1/2 inch piece of cardstock. Tear the cardstock piece in half so you end up with a piece of torn cardstock which is 5-1/2 inches long. Adhere the triangular piece to the center of the torn cardstock and then adhere to the corner of the card front. The cardstock will hang off the edges of the card, so trim off the excess cardstock with your scissors.
Once you have the triangular piece adhered to the card front, simply decorate as desired. The last two card ideas feature the triangular shape leftover from creating the outside panel of the Diagonal Z Fold card. To create this card, start with a 2 x 4 inch piece of patterned paper adhered to a 2-1/4 x 4-1/4 inch piece of cardstock. Add a few dimensionals to the triangular piece and adhere to the lower left part of the card front. Then simply decorate as desired!
