Today I have 9 different Halloween card ideas to share featuring the Magic in This Night Suite from Stampin’ Up! Now the card designs (layouts) just might look familiar to you! That’s because I used these exact same layouts to create the Beautiful Autumn cards during my LIVE World Card Making Day event! Yes, today I am going to show you how to change each of the Autumn Themed cards into Halloween cards!
How To Re-Use Card Layouts
Re-using card layouts is a great way to completely change the look of the card without having to come up with brand new measurements. Most card layouts can be re-used, especially if they feature the use of patterned paper. Typically patterned paper is used to create the back drop or basic design of the card. The basic design is all you need to know! Once you have the measurements for the patterned paper, or basic card layout, you can really use ANY patterned papers other supplies you have on hand to embellish it.
For example, let’s look at the basic design of these two cards. The backdrop of the card features nine 1 x 1 inch pieces of patterned paper. The greeting is stamped on a 1 x 3-1/4 inch piece of cardstock. Notice the layout is exactly the same. The only difference between the cards are the supplies that were used to decorate it. So to re-use your card layout, simply change out the patterned paper and coordinate your cardstock and embellishments with the colors in the paper.
Quick Halloween Card Ideas
So now that you know the basic concept for re-using card layouts, the sky is the limit when it comes to making cards! All of the card ideas that I am sharing with you today feature the exact same layout that I used to create the Beautiful Autumn cards on World Card Making Day. If you didn’t catch the event or the card ideas, you can view them all HERE.
Beside using different patterned papers, all of my Halloween card feature different shapes and embellishments. For the Beautiful Autumn cards, I used circle shapes for the greetings/sentiments. For the Halloween cards, I used a variety of shapes such as labels and rectangular shapes. However, the backdrop for the cards is virtually identical.
Scrappy Strip Halloween Card Ideas
Of course one of the other fun things about these simple card layouts is that you can easily use up scrap pieces of patterned paper. The first card features 1 x 4 inch pieces of the Magic In This Night Designer Series Paper that are staggered across the card front. It makes an awesome back drop for the card. ANY patterned papers, stamp set and embellishments will work for this type of card layout.
The second card idea is another fun way to use up scraps. Simply use a 2 x 4 and a 1-1/4 x 4-1/2 inch piece of patterned paper. Layer the patterned papers together to create a fun focal point on the card. Then simply embellish as desired.
You can also use slightly larger scrap pieces of patterned paper to create these layouts. The first layout is one of my favorite types of designs: a panel card. The end pieces are 1-1/4 inches wide. The middle piece is 2 inches wide. All of the pieces are 3-1/2 inches long. The second card features a 1 x 4-3/4 and a 2 x 4-3/4 inch piece of patterned paper. A scrap 1/2 inch wide piece covers up the “seam” between the other two pieces.
Halloween Card Ideas – Landscape Style
The last couple of Halloween card ideas feature some simply layouts in landscape style. You can change the whole look of your card simply by changing the orientation from portrait style to landscape. A portrait style card opens from right to left. A landscape style card open from the bottom up.
All of these cards feature a variety of products from the Magic In This Night Suite from Stampin’ Up! For a complete list of all of the supplies and the step-by-step instructions for creating these cards, feel free to download the printable tutorial.
