This week’s video features 3 autumn themed quilt card designs! You will learn how to use a partial and full quilt card design. Plus, I will share a fun way to use the negative space created from cutting out the leaf shapes.
The cards in this video feature the Love of Leaves Bundle from Stampin’ Up! The bundle comes with a stamp set and some fabulous stitched leaves dies. They are perfect for creating autumn themed cards or cards for any occasion. These are easy and fun designs that you can create with ANY supplies that you have on hand.
Partial Quilt Card Design
First let’s talk about the partial quilt card design. The card features a variety of different patterns from the Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper. If you love the colors of autumn, you are definitely going to enjoy this paper pack. Of course this card design will work well with ANY patterned papers you have on hand. So pull out your paper stash and get ready to make some beautiful cards.
To create this card, cut 6 patterned paper squares at 1-1/4 x 1-1/4 inches. Scrap pieces of patterned paper work perfect with this type of design. Arrange the squares diagonally across a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of Crumb Cake cardstock. With this particular design, the squares on the outside of the cardstock are flush with the edges. This gives you the ability to leave about a 1/4 inch space in between each of the squares as you adhere them diagonally across the cardstock. Then decorate as desired. Be sure to use up some of your scrap papers to decorate the inside of the card as well.
Full Quilt Card Design
Now for the full quilt card design! The concept for creating this card is similar to the partial quilt card. The only differences are that we will be using more squares and we will be adhering the squares directly to the card front (instead of to a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of cardstock).
To create this card, cut 12 patterned paper squares at 1-1/4 x 1-1/4 inches. You can use all different patterns, like I did on this card, or mix and match them to create a fun design. The key to creating this design is to arrange them in such a way so that you have about 1/4 inch space in between all of the squares. The card base will provide a colorful matte around each square. Then simply decorate as desired. You can even use those 1-1/4 x 1-1/4 inch squares to decorate the inside of the card. Super fun!
Creating with Negative Space
The last quilt card I have to share with you features a full quilt design, with a twist! Yes, you will create the full quilt card design on a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of Crumb Cake cardstock. Then we will take the cardstock, with the quilt pieces, and run it through the embossing machine. Simply choose one of the leaf dies to cut out the leaf directly in the center of the quilt design.
Once the leaf shape is cut into the cardstock, you will set aside the leaf shape (maybe use it for a different card) as we are just going to use the negative space left in the center of the quilt design. Be sure to watch the video to see this process in action! I have a few tips for you on how to create the stitching in the negative space.
