Butterfly Wishes – One Card Design Four Ways

Today I will show you how to take one simple card design and step it up to create 4 more cards. The cards feature the Stampin Up Butterfly Wishes stamp set but flowery stamps will work well too! We will start out with a basic card design involving some simple stamping. Then we will take that design and step it up to create 4 beautiful cards.

Butterfly Wishes (Stampin Up) - One Card Design Four Ways

The cards feature some simple stamping as well as a partial embossing technique. Now this technique is similar to the partial die cutting technique, the only difference is that we will be using embossing folders instead of dies. So play around with these card layouts and the stamp sets you have on hand. You will be amazed at what you can create!

Butterfly Wishes Card Design

So the first thing we need to do is start out with a very basic card design. Just a clean and simple card like this one! One you have a design to work with, it’s easy to step it up by adding some embellishments, embossing and/or layers.

Butterfly Wishes (Stampin Up) - One Card Design Four Ways

The basic card design involves stamping a variety of different butterfly images, from the Butterfly Wishes stamp set, down the right side of the card front. Use alternating colors as well and different size butterflies to create a fun look. For the finishing touch, stamp a greeting on it and you are good to good! You could also add a few pearls to it if you wanted to dress it up a bit.

Butterfly Edge Design

Now you can take that basic card design and step it up to create some additional cards that have a whole new look! Both of these cards have the same type of design as the first one, the butterflies were stamped down the right side of the card. However, I changed the look of the cards simply by cutting around the stamped butterfly images to create a pretty edging for the card front.

The first card features a 1 x 5-1/2 inch piece of Soft Sea Foam cardstock adhered to the inside of the card. The Soft Sea Foam color really accents the butterflies compared to the second card. However, both are beautiful! This is a very easy way to add a little pizazz to your cards without a lot of fuss! And it will work well with flower images too (if you don’t have butterflies).

Partial and Full Embossing

The next two cards feature some fun ways to step up your card designs with embossing. The first card features the new Ornate Floral 3D embossing folder which was used to emboss the entire front of the card. Notice how we have the exact same card design with the spray of butterflies stamped down the center of the card (instead of the side of the card).

The second card features the spray of butterflies stamped down the left side of the card front. However, the right side of the cardstock features a partial embossing technique. Yes, you do not have to emboss the entire piece of cardstock! Simply insert the part of the cardstock, in the embossing folder, that you would like to emboss and leave the rest hang out of the folder. Run it through your embossing machine. You will see that only the cardstock inside of the folder is embossed. The cardstock hanging out of the folder remains unchanged. It’s another fun way to step up your cards!
