4 Simple Card Designs for Bold Patterned Papers

Do you struggle to create cards using busy or bold patterned papers? Well, today I have some simple card designs to share that work well with bold patterned papers like the Lily Impressions Designer Series Paper (DSP). Now this particular patterned paper is beautiful with many different abstract designs. However, the bold and busy patterns in this paper can make it challenging to create cards. The four card layouts I have today will definitely compliment the bold patterns and take the guess work out of designing.

4 Simple Card Designs for Bold Patterns - Lily Impressions DSP

The cards feature the new Lily Impressions DSP which is one of the many fabulous products you can can choose for free with a qualifying Saleabration order. However, keep in mind these card designs will work well with any patterned paper. Just get creative with it!

Combining Subtle and Bold Patterns Together

So these first couple of cards feature the use of a subtle and bold pattern paper together. The nice thing about the Lily Impressions DSP is that the pattern on one side compliments the pattern on the other side. Plus, you can mix and match the patterns because all of the colors coordinate.

The card design is very simple and can be used with any patterned papers. Start with a piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock (or any color that coordinates with your patterned paper) for the base of the card. Next, cut a 2 x 4 inch piece of one of the subtle patterned papers and adhere it to the left side of the card front. Choose a bold pattern which coordinates with the subtle pattern you chose. Cut a 3-1/4 x 4 inch piece of the bold patterned paper and adhere it to the right side of the card front.

Now we are ready to decorate the card. For these cards, I chose to use one of the Stitched So Sweetly dies to create the white label shape. The white cardstock for the label helps to draw your attention away from the patterned paper to the focal point. The focal point is simply some of the fun Lovely Lily Pad images as well as the Lily Pad die cuts. For the finishing touch, embellish the cards with a few pearls.

Recessed Panel Card Design

The second card design I have to share is what I like to call the recessed panel card. With this particular card design the patterned paper is recessed in the background with a few small pieces of colored cardstock overlays. The cardstock can be plain or, in this case, embossed. Either way is beautiful.

So the first thing you need to decide is what patterned paper you will use. This will help you determine what color cardstock to use for the panels. Start by cutting a 2 x 5-1/4 inch piece of patterned paper and adhere it to the center of the card base. Next, create the panels by cutting two pieces of colored cardstock at 1-1/2 x 5-1/4 inches and 1 x 5-1/4 inches. You can emboss them, as shown above, or simply use the cardstock pieces plain. Add a few dimensionals to the back of the cardstock pieces and adhere them to the card front. The panels will overlap onto the patterned paper. For the finishing touch, embellish the card as desired.

More Simple Card Designs

These last two card ideas are similar to the first two cards. They involve the use of subtle and bold patterns. The first card is simply a 5 x 3-3/4 inch piece of the bold patterned paper adhered to the card front. Next, cut a 1-1/2 x 3-3/4 inch piece of a subtle patterned paper design and adhere it across the center of the card front. For the finishing touch, embellish as desired.

The last card design features a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of a subtle pattern adhered to the card front (the opposite of the other card). Next, cut a 2 x 5-1/4 inch piece of one of the bold patterns and adhere it to the bottom of the card front as shown. Then, for the finishing touch, embellish the card as desired.

Now you have 4 different card designs that you can use with any patterned papers that you have on hand. For more cards created with the Lily Impressions DSP, check out the Bridge Fold Card Ideas HERE. I hope you enjoyed these fun and simple card ideas. Have a creative day! ~ Lynn
