Love is in the air…and all over my craft room! So of course I have to continue with the focus on love-themed cards today. Only this time, I will be using the Love You To Pieces stamp set from Stampin’ Up! This is not a new stamp set but I decided to use because of it’s versatility. So today I will share 4 different card ideas featuring this set. I will also share two simple tips for using the same card layout to create a totally different look.
Card designs are quite versatile. And by versatile, I mean you can use the “layout” of the card with a variety of different supplies. In essence, you can change the look of the card simply by changing the colors, patterned paper or stamp images you are using. You can also change the look of a card by adding texture or other mediums. For today, we will focus on two different layouts and some simple ways to change the look of the card.
The Color Scheme
One of the easiest ways to change the look of a card is simply to change the color scheme. You can actually use the same card layout over and over again with a variety of different colors. The common term for this is monochromatic color schemes. You can learn more about monochromatic color schemes in card making along with a few examples HERE.
Now for these card ideas, you can see that the basic design is the same. Both cards have several puzzle pieces adhered, randomly, to a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of white card stock. The focal points on the card are similar as they are both puzzle pieces. However, notice that the color scheme is different and so are the stamped images. One card is more formal, with the black and white colors, and is perfect for a wedding! The other card with the pop of “red” would be perfect to celebrate an anniversary or even Valentine’s Day. So it’s pretty easy to take this basic card layout and, with a few modifications, change into a card to fit any occasion!
The Focal Point
Besides using different colors, a change in the focal point on your card is also a great way to give it a new look. These two card ideas have the exact same layout but the focal points are very different.
Card layout: The top part of the card features the puzzle pieces cut from white card stock using the puzzle piece die. The puzzle pieces are adhered to a 3-3/4 x 3-3/4 inch piece of card stock. The bottom section of the card features a 5/8 x 3-1/4 inch piece of white card stock adhered to a 1 x 3-3/4 inch piece of colored card stock. I recommend stamping the greeting on the white card stock before adhering it to the colored card stock piece.
Now that you know the basic layout of the card, you can create any focal point for the card that you prefer. The first card features some layered hearts as the focal point. The second card features the little bride and groom puzzle pieces as the focal point. One card layout, two completely different looks! How cool is that?
Now you can also use these card designs with other stamp sets and supplies you have on hand. Don’t have the puzzle pieces die? Simply use patterned paper or your favorite embossing folder to create the background on the card. The possibilities are endless!
I hope you enjoyed these little tips and card ideas. Have a creative day! ~ Lynn
